GM is recalling more than 270,000 model year 2023–2025 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles over concerns the vehicles’ rearview camera screens could display a distorted or blank image.
The automaker, in a recall submitted on April 2, said the issue with the recalled Chevrolet Malibus’ rearview camera screens creates a safety risk that could include crash, fire, death and injury.
“If the rearview camera is not functioning properly, rear visibility is reduced, increasing the risk of a crash during a backing event,” the recall says.
An investigation determined the recall issue was caused by the rearview camera being exposed to moisture, as a result of issues with mounting configuration and the camera housing bond, the recall says.
GM has received more than 19K ‘potentially related’ complaints, recall says
GM said an analysis of field data completed in February found 19,117 “potentially related” complaints of rearview camera display issues, with the reports received between Nov. 22, 2022, and Jan. 29, 2026.
The automaker, however, said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries “associated with this condition on the Chevrolet Malibu.”
GM said it plans to remedy the recall issue by having dealers replace the rearview camera on the affected Chevrolet Malibu vehicles.
Dealers were notified about the Chevrolet Malibu recall on April 2, while owner notification “of an available remedy” is estimated to start being mailed out on May 18, according to the recall.
Three consumers filed a class action lawsuit against GM earlier this year over claims the automaker sold vehicles with a defective brake vacuum pump system.

I have paid to have my camera replaced. How do I get my money back?

My Chevy Malibu 2025 failed in all front end cameras did.not warn me at anytime of a 18 wheeler rim and tire that rolled down highway and hit me blindside becoming an airborne and rolling multiple times. Also some major airbags did not deploy resulting in more severe injuries to me. Is there anybody out there that has any front end or airbag deployment not working after a crash.
This is crazy because I went to the dealership to get an oil change aalmost 2 weeks ago and on my paperwork it says I denied getting my camera fixed and they didn’t even tell me anything. They didn’t ask me did I want to get it fixed? Didn’t even mention it, If I wouldn’t have read the papers I wouldn’t have known.

Bought a brand new 2020 Malibu first owner and had to replace the transmission at 70,000 miles. Recall the 2020 model because they are costing people money
I own a 2023 Chevrolet Malibu and have been experiencing issues with my rearview camera display going black intermittently. This issue began on April 17, 2026, just a few days after my bumper-to-bumper warranty expired on April 14, 2026. I have already scheduled a service appointment with my dealership to have the issue diagnosed.
After seeing information regarding a potential recall related to rearview camera display problems on certain Chevrolet Malibu models, I believe my vehicle may be affected. I am interested in learning more about this issue and any potential eligibility for repair coverage or participation in a class action if applicable. I would appreciate any guidance on next steps.
