Infotainment center in vehicleAccording to several Honda Odyssey and Honda Pilot owners, the infotainment systems in these vehicles may malfunction and pose safety risks to drivers who are distracted by the frozen screen. Multiple lawsuits have been filed by unhappy consumers regarding these Honda infotainment issues.

What are the Honda Infotainment Issues?

Honda infotainment systems The infotainment system in the Honda Odyssey offers a variety of information and entertainment options for drivers and passengers. They may include navigation or GPS systems, options for audio, video, and music streaming, hands-free phone connectivity, Bluetooth connections, back up cameras, and more.

However, these systems allegedly turn off unexpectedly, freeze, or turn to a blank black or blue screen. According to consumers, malfunctioning infotainment systems can be a substantial distraction while driving. Several recent lawsuits regarding Honda infotainment systems list a variety of defects and malfunctions experienced by drivers, including issues with:

  • Rear entertainment systems, or back-of-seat DVD players
  • Navigation systems and GPS
  • Audio systems, including radios, CD players, and satellite music players
  • Back-up cameras
  • Cabin watch systems
  • Bluetooth

Consumer first-hand accounts of these Honda infotainment malfunctions cite issues including network connectivity errors, the rear camera freezing, or the screen refusing to turn on. In at least one instance, the entire dashboard screen turned off, including the digital speedometer.

According to Consumer Affairs, these Honda infotainment center problems allegedly pose a serious hazard to drivers, who may be distracted by the freezing screens, malfunctioning navigation systems, and defective audio systems. Additionally, problems with the back-up cameras may pose an even higher risk to drivers. Many drivers rely on these cameras when backing up, exiting garages, or parallel parking. If these back-up cameras freeze while they are in use, consumers may not realize if there is an object, person, or pet behind their car.

What Can Consumers Do?

Consumers who have been affected by defective Honda infotainment systems only have a few options.

Many consumers report that they have made attempts to have Honda fix the issues. However, consumers who have contacted Honda customer service regarding these issues claim that the car company has been unhelpful and does not take responsibility for the problems, instead blaming the malfunctions on consumers’ cell phones or Bluetooth devices.

Some consumers say they have had to bring their vehicles to their dealerships for system resets or replacements. Unfortunately, these replacement parts often come with the same issues as the originals. Due to these issues, Consumer Reports has downgraded the rating on the 2018 Honda Odyssey to “No longer recommended.”

Other consumers have filed class action lawsuits against Honda regarding these issues. According to these lawsuits, the car company either should have known about the defects associated with their vehicles, or did not do appropriate research and testing regarding the infotainment systems. These lawsuits further claim that Honda should have fixed these issues once they were made aware of them by numerous consumer complaints.

Who is Affected?

Owners and lessees of 2018 and 2019 Honda Odysseys, 2019 Honda Pilots, or 2019 Acura RDXs who have experienced Honda infotainment issues may be able to join a class action lawsuit and pursue compensation for these problems. Filing a class action lawsuit may be the only way to get the attention of car companies and force them to rectify these issues.

i have the same issue with my Honda passport 2019, took it to the dealership for repair and they havent found any issue; since they could not duplicate the problem. I was advise to just turn the power on and off to reset. But the issue keep coming back, once the system warms up.

My 2020 Honda Odyssey is having the same problems and the dealership has not been able to fix it yet. Looking into my local Lemon law.

Same issue I am facing too, took my Pilot for diagnosis and repair they haven’t found any issue since the issue did happen they were checking. I suspect it’s fault in the internal Card or chip which they don’t want to replace.
