Trader Joe’s recall overview:

  • Why: Consumers found hard plastic in the dumplings, leading to the recall.
  • Where: The Trader Joe’s recall is effective across the United States.

CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corp. issued a recall for approximately 61,839 pounds of Trader Joe’s Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings after consumers found hard plastic in the product.

The recall involves Trader Joe’s dumplings in 6-ounce containers containing six pieces with lot codes 03.07.25.C1-1 and 03.07.25.C1-2.

The hard plastic came from a permanent marker pen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said in the recall.

The dumplings were produced Dec. 7, 2023, and shipped to Trader Joe’s locations nationwide, according to the FSIS’s announcement. The dumplings have establishment number P-46009 printed inside the USDA mark of inspection.

No adverse effects reported from dumplings, company says

CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corp. says it has not received any reports of adverse effects related to the recall so far. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

FSIS and CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corp. advise consumers not to eat the dumplings and either throw them away or return them to their place of purchase.

Consumers can call CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corp.’s Consumer Experience Department at 800-544-6855. The USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline can be reached at 888-674-6854 or MPHotline@usda.gov.

Trader Joe’s issued a recall in February for several food products that contain cotija cheese due to possible dairy listeria contamination.
