Wayne Memorial Hospital agreed to a class action settlement to resolve claims that it failed to prevent a 2024 data breach.
The Wayne Memorial Hospital settlement benefits individuals whose private information was accessed in a data breach that occurred in 2024.
According to plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit, the Wayne Memorial Hospital data breach happened between May 30 and June 3, 2024, compromising sensitive patient information, including Social Security numbers, financial data, health insurance information and more.
Wayne Memorial Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital in Jesup, Georgia, has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the Wayne Memorial Hospital data breach class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Wayne Memorial Hospital settlement, class members can receive up to $5,000 for documented losses related to the data breach. These losses may include fraud, identity theft, bank fees, credit expenses and more. Class members must provide documentation of these losses to receive reimbursement.
Class members who did not experience documented losses can receive an alternate cash payment of $25. These payments will be reduced on a pro rata basis if a large number of class members claim these payments.
All class members are eligible for two years of free credit monitoring services. These services include single-bureau credit monitoring and $1 million in identity theft insurance.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Nov. 7, 2026.
