Woman Files Bard Hernia Mesh Lawsuit After Mother’s DeathAn Ohio woman recently filed a Bard hernia mesh lawsuit against the medical manufacturer, alleging that the company’s hernia mesh device led to her mother’s complications, injuries, and untimely death.

The plaintiff, Cynthia A., filed this Bard hernia mesh lawsuit on behalf of her late mother, Barbara A. According to the Bard hernia mesh lawsuit, Barbara underwent hernia repair on May 12, 2012, and was implanted with a Bard hernia mesh device. Cynthia says that just a few months later, in October 2012, Barbara went to the hospital for abdominal pain and nausea. She was diagnosed with a recurrent ventral hernia and had to have her Bard mesh removed and replaced.

Unfortunately, even after the mesh device was removed, Barbara allegedly continued to suffer from complications, including pain, mesh migration, scarring, and more. According to the Bard hernia mesh lawsuit, these complications ultimately led to Barbara’s death on June 8, 2016. She leaves behind her daughter, Cynthia A., who filed the Bard hernia mesh lawsuit on her late mother’s behalf.

The Bard hernia mesh lawsuit was filed on June 8, 2018 in the U.S. District Court for the Dayton Division of the Southern District of Ohio. The lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including manufacturing defect, design defect, failure to warn, negligence, and wrongful death, among others.

Basics of Hernia Mesh

Patients may be implanted with hernia mesh to reinforce a weak area or patch a hole caused by a hernia. Bard is just one of a number of manufacturers to make hernia mesh, along with Ethicon and others.

Despite the popularity and widespread use of these devices, a growing number of patients implanted with hernia mesh are reporting serious hernia mesh problems. In order to alleviate complications, many are forced to undergo hernia mesh removal.

Hernia Mesh Complications

A number of hernia mesh problems have been associated with these devices, including chronic pain, hernia recurrence, mesh rejection, infection, device migration, scarring, inflammation, and tissue and nerve damage.

Device migration can lead to more dangerous problems like infection, adhesion, and device failure. For some, symptoms may not appear up to several years after their hernia mesh was implanted. Serious hernia mesh problems can require patients to undergo revision surgery. Of course, any additional surgery will add further risk of infection and other complications, as well as additional medical expenses.

Filing a Bard Hernia Mesh Lawsuit

If you or someone you love has suffered from these or other side effects after undergoing Bard hernia repair, even months or years after the fact, you may be able to file a Bard hernia mesh lawsuit. While filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by hernia mesh problems, it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.

The Bard Hernia Mesh Lawsuit is Case No. 3:18-cv-00203-WHR, in the U.S. District Court for the Dayton Division of the Southern District of Ohio.
