Taylor Fresh Foods recall overview:
- Who: Taylor Fresh Foods is recalling jalapeño-based dips, salsa, guacamole, burritos, sandwiches and salads sold under Trader Joe’s, Freshness Guaranteed and other retailer brand names.
- Why: The products may contain fresh jalapeños linked to a Salmonella outbreak traced to a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico.
- Where: The recall spans 26 states, with Texas, Illinois, Ohio and Louisiana accounting for the largest share of affected products.
California-based Taylor Fresh Foods is recalling dozens of finished products made with jalapeños after learning that supplier Coast Citrus Distributors is voluntarily recalling fresh jalapeños linked to a multistate Salmonella outbreak.
The recall notice, filed with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Aug. 9, affects items distributed to retail centers in 26 states and carries “Best If Used By” dates ranging from Aug. 7 through Aug. 16.
Texas and Illinois account for the largest share of recalled items, followed by Ohio and Louisiana.
Examples of produce include Hannaford Diced Jalapeños (UPC 030223082712), sold in Maine and New York with a best-by window of Aug. 7-14; Target’s Taco Dip (UPC 030223073581), sold in Florida, Ohio and Texas with a best-by window of Aug. 12-13; and Walmart’s Freshness Guaranteed Hot Pico de Gallo (UPC 681131276351), sold across seven states through an Aug. 16 best-by date.

The CDC reports 345 confirmed Salmonella illnesses and 36 hospitalizations across 27 states tied to jalapeños grown in Sinaloa, Mexico, and distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors, in an update last reviewed on Aug. 10.
Taylor Fresh Foods has not confirmed any illnesses connected to its own recalled products and said it is no longer sourcing jalapeños from the implicated grower.
Consumers urged to discard recalled jalapeño products, offers refunds
Consumers who purchased any of the recalled products should discard them immediately and not consume them. Refunds are available at the original point of purchase. Shoppers can cross-check their items against the product name, UPC and “Best If Used By” date before disposing of them.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, meanwhile, has also published a public health alert identifying meat and poultry products containing the affected jalapeños, advising consumers not to consume these items.

Taylor Fresh Foods says it has not received any reports of illness or injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
