Pradaxa lawsuit

A new blood thinning medication may be joining the class of anticoagulants that has been connected with over 1,000 cases of internal bleeding. While the drug may be good for some patients, its similarity to drugs such as Eliquis has caused some to be concerned.

The drug Savaysa (edoxaban) is manufactured by Daiichi Sankyo. It would be the fourth drug in the Factor Xa inhibitor class, following Praxada, Xarelto, and Eliquis. Savaysa was suggested to only be used for patients who have significant kidney problems, as other blood thinning medications seemed to be more effective in patients with healthy kidneys.

Savaysa, Eliquis, and other Factor Xa inhibitors have been promoted as alternatives to warfarin, which has been the go-to blood thinning medication for decades. These drugs are supposed to be easier than warfarin because they require less monitoring. However, severe internal bleeding side effects have been found in a large number of patients.

Furthermore, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suggested that this new drug may only be “better” for patients with poor renal function. The FDA also noted that Savaysa was not more effective than Eliquis or other drugs.

Eliquis Side Effects

Eliquis internal bleeding has been experienced by a large number of patients. While all anticoagulants have internal bleeding risks to some extent, warfarin has an antidote that is able to stop and control the bleeding. Currently, there is not an antidote for Eliquis. Researchers are working on a potential antidote, but it has not yet been approved by the FDA.

Eliquis was introduced to the market in 2012 by Pfizer and Bristol-Meyers Squibb. It has already been marked as one of the most dangerous medications to take due to the large number of people who have experienced Eliquis side effects, such as internal bleeding.

Eliquis side effects include:

  • Bleeding on the brain
  • Intestinal bleeding
  • Kidney bleeding
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
  • Death

Due to the large risk of internal bleeding associated with Factor Xa inhibitors, many drug manufacturers are looking into reversal agents. None are approved yet, but the first drug to find a way of stopping bleeding side effects may become more profitable and popular.

Savaysa’s similarity to other blood thinning medications might mean the drug carries the same internal bleeding risks. Moreover, the FDA noted that the drug may be unnecessary as it is not superior to Eliquis or other anticoagulants.

Xarelto internal bleeding has caused hundreds of individuals serious internal bleeding. Xarelto lawsuits have been filed against Bayer Healthcare and Johnson & Johnson for failing to warn users about bleeding risks and for failing to provide an antidote.

Thousands of lawsuits have been filed against the manufacturers of Pradaxa, Xarelto, and Eliquis for failing to warn against internal bleeding side effects, and thousands of dollars have already been awarded to victims of uncontrollable internal bleeding.
