The recall, announced on May 21, involves 24-ounce cups of the soup distributed to various states and sold online through Whole Foods and Amazon.
The recalled soup was distributed in 18 states, including Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Products were also sold in Whole Foods retail stores and nationwide through online sales on the Whole Foods and Amazon websites.
The affected products are marked with lot code 1762181 and a use-by date of 05/27/26, with a UPC identifier of 099482502065.
The issue was discovered when a single cup of the soup was found to contain shrimp, according to the Whole Foods recall notice.
Whole Foods recall warns undeclared shrimp poses allergy risk
The Whole Foods recall notice highlights the potential danger for consumers with shellfish allergies, as ingesting the undeclared shrimp could lead to severe allergic reactions.
“People who have allergies to Crustacean Shellfish (Shrimp) run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the recall states.
Consumers are advised to return any affected Whole Foods Market Kitchen Minestrone Soup to the place of purchase for a full refund. The recall notice emphasizes that no other soups or use-by codes are affected by this Whole Foods recall.
