Target lavender shortbread cookies recall overview:

  • Who: Target is recalling its Lavender Shortbread Cookies
  • Why: The boxes were erroneously packed with chocolate chip cookies
  • Where: Nationwide

J&M Foods is recalling more than 1,000 packs of Favorite Day brand lavender shortbread cookies sold at Target, as they were “erroneously packed” with chocolate chip cookies instead.

The recall notice was posted July 5 on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website and applies to 1,464 packs of the cookies with best by date of April 18, 2023.

Because the packs are filled with the wrong cookies, the packaging does not list the presence of a possible allergen: soy or eggs.

“Some people who have an extreme allergy or severe sensitivity to soy or eggs could run the risk of a serious allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the recall states.

Cookies sold at Target

The company was made aware of the issue through a consumer, the recall says.

The cookies were distributed nationally at Target and the retailer has been notified and it has removed the product from their store shelves and online.

To date, there have been no illnesses reported, the recall says. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Consumers who purchased the mixed-up cookies can contact Target at 1-800-440-0680 or J&M Foods at 1-800-264-2278 for a full refund.

Meanwhile, an Illinois federal judge has dismissed most of a class action lawsuit accusing Target Corp. of mislabeling some of its cosmetic products as “oil-free.”

The news comes as Target recently announced it had marked down unwanted inventory in an effort to make room for merchandise such as back-to-school supplies, groceries, cosmetics and other household essentials.
