STIHL pressure washers have been recalled due to reports that consumers can be injured when the machine’s nozzle disconnects during use.
On Jan. 23, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of STIHL RE 90 pressure washers.
According to the agency, the nozzle on these machines can disconnect from the spray wand during use. This can reportedly lead to injury.
STIHL has received seven reports of the pressure washer nozzle detaching from the spray wand during use, although no injuries have been reported to the company.
The STIHL RE 90 pressure washers were sold at authorized STIHL dealers for about $180 between May 2019 and October 2019. Around 16,400 pressure washers are included in the recall.
The recalled pressure washers can be identified by their appearance. The machines are grey and orange, with “STIHL RE 90” printed on the front of the pressure washers. The spray wand on the pressure washers is around 15 inches long and can be attached to the machines’ spray guns. There are several interchangeable nozzles that connect to the spray wand.
If customers purchased the recalled pressure washers, the CPSC directs them to stop using the machines. Consumers should contact STIHL or their local STIHL servicing dealer which will provide them with a free replacement spray wand.
Consumers can contact STIHL Inc. about the recall at 844-978-1291 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
The CPSC is the federal authority on recalling dangerous consumer products. If a product is found to pose a risk of injury, fire, or other hazards, the CPSC can work with manufacturers to recall the products. Should a manufacturer fail to voluntarily recall a dangerous product, the CPSC can order a mandatory recall.
There have been several recalls this month as the CPSC and manufacturers aim to keep consumers and their property safe from harm.
On Jan. 9, the CPSC announced the recall of Libbey Glass milk bottles. According to the agency, the bottles are at risk of breaking – resulting in shattered glass that could harm consumers.
Consumers or foodservice establishments who purchased the recalled Libbey Glass milk bottles can contact the manufacturer for replacement bottles or a voucher.
On Jan. 14, the CPSC announced another recall – this time from Thompson’s WaterSeal products. The company’s aerosol waterproofing sprays are reportedly prone to reacting with their packaging. As a result, rust can form on the can seam and create pinhole leaks. The propellant leak can reportedly ignite and cause a fire.
The Thompson’s Company is offering a full refund of the WaterSeal purchase price to compensate consumers for the defective products.
On Jan. 16, the CPSC announced that Baby Trend would be recalling their Tango Mini Strollers. The agency notes that the stroller’s hinge joints can release and cause a child to fall, although no injuries have been reported.
Consumers who purchased the Tango Mini Strollers are able to receive a refund or replacement.
