Infanttech has announced a recall of more than 17,000 baby monitors after multiple reports of the monitors catching fire.

The recall was published on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website June 22. It applies to about 17,100 Zooby video baby monitors for cars.

According to the Infanttech recall, the baby monitor’s battery can malfunction, overheat and burst, posing a fire hazard.

The firm has received three reports of the baby monitors catching fire. No injuries have been reported so far, it said.

The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Consumers advised to remove battery from product

The baby monitors are housed in a plush animal toy including a giraffe, dog, fox, rabbit and panda.

Consumers should immediately remove the battery from the plush camera, after which they can continue using the Zooby plush camera and monitor plugged in.

Consumers can then contact Infanttech for a free replacement battery. Infanttech is contacting all known purchasers.

The recalled monitors were sold online at infanttech.com and Amazon.com from January 2022 through May 2023 for between $130 and $190. They have battery model number HJ554050 batch 2136, which is shown on the battery itself.

Meanwhile, Juratoys has recalled more than 6,000 children’s activity tables in the United States and Canada as they pose a choking hazard.
