Momaid infant lounger recall overview:
- Who: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning consumers to stop using Momaid infant loungers.
- Why: The loungers don’t comply with federal safety standards.
- Where: The Momaid infant lounger recall is active in the United States.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall and is warning consumers to immediately stop using the Momaid infant lounger due to their lack of compliance with federal safety standards.
The warning was published on the CPSC website June 8. It applies to Momaid infant loungers advertised as a Baby Lounger Portable Infant Co Sleeping Bassinet Newborn Cocoon Snuggle Reversible Nest Bed Travel Crib.
According to the recall, consumers should immediately stop using the Momaid infant loungers because they do not comply with federal safety standards for infant sleep products, posing a risk of suffocation and a fall hazard to infants.
“The loungers fail to meet the safety requirements of CPSC’s Infant Sleep Products Rule because they do not have a stand,” the agency said. “In addition, the lounger fails to meet the side height, markings and labeling, and instructional literature requirements.”
It said these failures create an unsafe sleeping environment for infants.
In 2021, The Boppy Co. issued a massive recall covering more than 3.3 million of its pillow loungers meant for infants due to a suffocation hazard after the deaths of eight infants. Two more infants have died since.
Manufacturer is not cooperating with federal safety watchdog
The manufacturer, Zhejiang Juster Trading LLC, of China, is not cooperating with the CPSC to recall the product and is not offering a remedy to consumers, the notice says.
The loungers were sold online at amazon.com and other websites for about $55. There is no labeling on the infant loungers.
The CPSC urges consumers to stop using the loungers, cut the fabric and dispose of the fabric and pillow immediately.
