Charcuterie recalls overview:

  • Who: Fratelli Beretta USA Inc. is recalling an undetermined amount of ready-to-eat meat charcuterie products that include coppa.
  • Why: The coppa may be underprocessed and contaminated with foodborne pathogens including salmonella, the charcuterie recall says.
  • Where: The charcuterie products recall is valid across the United States.

Fratelli Beretta USA Inc. is recalling an undetermined amount of ready-to-eat charcuterie products because of a potential contamination issue.

The recalled charcuterie products contain coppa, which may be underprocessed and contaminated with foodborne pathogens, according to the recall.

The charcuterie products recall is related to a prior recall of Busseto brand Charcuterie Sampler and Fratelli Beretta brand Antipasto Gran Beretta due to possible salmonella contamination.

The recalled charcuterie has an establishment number “EST. M47967 or M7543B” printed inside the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) mark of inspection or on the front of the package.

Salmonellosis, the illness caused by salmonella exposure, can lead to diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within six hours to six days after consumption; the illness can last four to seven days, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) says. Most who contract salmonellosis recover without treatment, but older adults, infants and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop severe illness.

FSIS investigating if prior coppa was part of salmonella outbreak

The FSIS is investigating an outbreak of salmonella in multiple states and is attempting to determine whether the Fratelli Beretta charcuterie products are related to the outbreak.

FSIS says some of the recalled products may be in retailers’ and customers’ refrigerators, and the agency urges anyone who purchased the products to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.

Fratelli Beretta is not facing legal action over the charcuterie recalls, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Anyone with questions about the charcuterie recalls can contact Marco Lastrico of Bussetto Foods Public Relations by phone at 917-634-1685 or by email m.lastrico@barabinousa.com, according to FSIS. Consumers can also contact the Busseto Recall Hotline at 866-552-4916.

Anyone with food safety questions can call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854, or send questions via email to MPHotline@usda.gov.
