They initiated the kitchen product recalls over safety concerns, including a pair of laceration hazards, a burn risk and a lead exposure risk.
A manufacturer may choose to initiate a recall if it determines the product contains a defect that could put consumers in danger.
Wegmans recalls more than 9,300 Cole & Mason pepper mills over laceration hazard
Wegmans announced a recall for more than 9,300 of its Cole & Mason pepper mills last month over concerns the products contain a metal grinding mechanism that sheds “metal shards” for the first 10 times they are ground.
The recall applies to clear acrylic Cole & Mason 505WEG Pepper Mills that are about 6 inches tall, were sold empty and have Item No. H50501PWE.
The supermarket chain is concerned the metal shards from the recalled Cole & Mason pepper mills could present a laceration hazard to consumers.
Wegmans says that, while it has not received any reports of injury in connection with the recall, it received three reports of metal shards coming off the pepper mill into consumers’ food
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Cole & Mason pepper mills and return them to Wegmans to receive a full refund.
Kell Electronic recalls about 25,000 mini fridges over concerns power cords could overheat
In other kitchen recalls, Kell Electronic recalled around 25,000 of its mini fridges last month over concerns they are equipped with power cords that could overheat and present a burn hazard.
The recall applies to Kell Electronic Personal Chiller Mini Fridge Gamer Beverage Refrigerators with LED lights and a model number of K1000BK.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled mini fridges and contact Kell Electronic directly to receive either a full refund or free replacement power cord.
Kell received six reports of power cords overheating on the recalled mini fridges yet no reports of injuries in connection with the recall.
Empower Brands recalls more than 450,000 waffle makers over burn risk
Also in May, Empower Brands initiated a recall for more than 450,000 of its PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer Waffle Maker products over concerns hot pieces of waffle or stuffing could fly out of the devices and burn consumers.
The recall applies to Empower’s Power XL Model ESWM02 (5-inch) and Model ESWM03 (7-inch) Stuffed Wafflizer waffle makers.
Empower received 44 reports of hot pieces of waffle or stuffing flying out of the recalled waffle makers, resulting in a total of 34 burn injuries with three requiring medical attention.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled waffle makers and contact Empower Brands directly to receive a free latch adapter part and written instructions on how to repair the device.
World Market recalls more than 6,000 cocktail shakers over laceration hazard concerns
World Market recalled more than 6,000 of its Gold Metal and Ribbed Glass cocktail shakers last month over concerns they could pose a laceration hazard.
The company initiated the recall after it determined the cocktail shakers could crack and break while being used.
World Market received three reports of the recalled cocktail shakers cracking and breaking, along with two reports of lacerations, in connection with the recall.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled cocktail shakers and contact World Market directly to receive a full refund.
Del Maguey recalls copitas over concerns they exceed FDA guidance levels for leachable lead
Also in May, Del Maguey announced a recall for some of its ceramic clay cups over concerns they may exceed U.S. Food and Drug Administration guidance levels for leachable lead.
The recall applies to copitas sold with a 750 ml bottle of Del Maguey Vida de Muertos mezcal as part of value-added packs since October 2022.
Del Maguey says it has not received any reports of illnesses that would be in connection with the recall.
Consumers should immediately stop using and throw away the recalled copitas. Del Maguey says it is working with a new supplier “to resolve the issue and produce new copitas.”
