  • Who: Kell Electronic recalled about 25,000 mini fridges.
  • Why: The fridges’ power cords can overheat, posing a burn hazard.
  • Where: The Kell mini fridge recall is active in the United States.
  • What are my options: Ace Hardware carries many options when it comes to mini fridges.

Kell Electronic has issued a recall of thousands of mini fridges as the fridges’ power cords can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website published the recall May 18. It applies to about 25,000 Personal Chiller Mini Fridge Gamer Beverage Refrigerators with LED lights.

According to the recall, the Kell has so far received six reports of the power cord overheating. No injuries have been reported, the company says.

The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Stop using mini fridge immediately, recall states

Kell sold the mini fridges at Walmart stores nationwide and online at walmart.com, as well as secondhand stores and websites, from September 2022 through January 2023 for about $60.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled refrigerators and contact Kell Electronic to receive a full refund or a replacement cord, the recall says.

Once unplugged, consumers should use scissors to cut the cord, take a photo of the cut cord and throw the cord away. Consumers will then need to submit the photo to receive the full refund or replacement cord.

The recalled mini fridges have a matte black finish exterior, lighted LED door and remote control with mood lighting effects, the recall states. Model number K1000BK is on the back of the refrigerator.

Last year, Electrolux recalled certain Frigidaire and Electrolux refrigerators due to a flaw in the ice maker.
