Wegmans announced a recall for more than 9,300 Cole & Mason pepper mills, as the product can pose a laceration hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published the recall May 18. It applies to 9,340 Cole & Mason 505WEG Pepper Mills, sold empty, with Item No. H50501PWE. The mills are clear acrylic and measure about 6 inches tall.

According to the recall notice, the recalled pepper mills contain a metal grinding mechanism that sheds metal “shards” for the first 10 grinds, posing a laceration hazard.

Wegmans received three reports of incidents of metal shards coming off the pepper mill into consumers’ food so far, it says. No injuries have been reported.

The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Stop using Wegmans pepper mills immediately, recall says

Wegmans Food Markets sold the Cole & Mason pepper mills nationwide from January 2021 through January 2023 for about $14.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled pepper mills and return them to Wegmans for a full refund, the recall states.

Wegmans is directly contacting consumers who purchased the recalled pepper mills.

Meanwhile, a federal judge in New York in March dismissed an amended class action lawsuit accusing Wegmans Food Markets of falsely advertising that its Wegmans Gluten Free Vanilla Cake Mix is “all-natural.”
