- Where: The Frigidaire class action lawsuit was filed in Illinois federal court.
A new class action lawsuit claims Electrolux Consumer Products sold Frigidaire-branded gas ranges with a defect that poses a burn hazard.
Plaintiff Megan Kelly filed the class action complaint against Electrolux on May 29 in Illinois federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.
According to the class action lawsuit, Frigidaire gas ranges — including Frigidaire, Frigidaire Gallery and Frigidaire Professional gas ranges models — have a defect that can cause the oven’s bake burner to ignite late.
Kelly argues that the defect poses a serious safety hazard to consumers, their children and pets, and a risk to personal and real property.
She claims the defect is the result of uniform flaws in materials and/or workmanship, and that Electrolux knew about the defect before introducing the ranges to the marketplace.
Electrolux recalled the defective ranges in March 2026, instructing consumers to stop using them immediately, the Frigidaire class action lawsuit says.
Class action alleges Electrolux failed to provide refunds for defective ranges
The Frigidaire class action lawsuit claims that despite being aware of the defect for years, Electrolux failed to provide refunds for the defective ranges, instead offering only in-home installation of a new bake burner.
Consumers have thus been unable to use the ovens in their gas ranges since purchasing them, and scheduling the replacement of the bake burner would take even more time, leaving consumers without a functional oven, the lawsuit argues.
The plaintiff seeks to represent a nationwide class and Illinois subclass of consumers who purchased the defective Frigidaire gas ranges.
Kelly is suing for violations of the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, breaches of express and implied warranties, unjust enrichment and declaratory relief.
She seeks certification of the class action, damages, fees, costs and a jury trial.
In another Frigidaire lawsuit, a consumer is suing Curtis International for allegedly failing to adequately address fire and burn hazards associated with Frigidaire-branded minifridges.
