Whole Foods Boston Baking cakes recall overview: 

  • Who: Boston Baking is recalling its Boston Baking Mini Cinnamon Crumb Cakes.
  • Why: The crumb cakes may contain undeclared pecans.
  • Where: The crumb cakes were sold in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New Jersey and New York at select Whole Foods Market stores.

Boston Baking is recalling its Boston Baking Mini Cinnamon Crumb Cakes sold at Whole Foods Market stores because they may contain undeclared pecans.

The recall notice was posted to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website Nov. 14 and applies to 3-ounce, individually wrapped “Boston Baking Mini Cinnamon Crumb Cakes.”

“People who have allergies to pecans run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the recall states.

No illnesses or consumer complaints have been reported to date in connection with this problem, the recall says.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Boston Baking crumb cakes were sold at Whole Foods Market stores, recall says

The recalled “Boston Baking Mini Cinnamon Crumb Cakes” were sold in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New Jersey And New York at select Whole Foods Market stores.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered by a Whole Foods Market team member that the pecan-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not include pecans in the ingredient list, the recall states.

Subsequent investigation indicated the problem was caused by an isolated error in the company’s production and packaging processes, the company said.

The affected product comes in a 3-ounce, clear plastic package and is marked with packed-on date of Oct. 17 to Nov. 10, 2022, a sell-by date of Oct. 22 to Nov. 15, 2022, and UPC (01)00238543000007(3904)0019900 on the back label.

Consumers who have purchased the affected crumb cakes are urged not to consume them if allergic to pecans, and to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Meanwhile, a Caesar dressing sold under the Whole Foods Market 365 brand is being recalled because it contains allergens that are not listed on the ingredients label, due to the wrong label being placed on the product.
