Elkhorn Valley Packing of Harper, Kansas, recalled 3,436 of its boneless beef chuck, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The beef chuck recall impacts various weights of corrugated boxes marked “Elkhorn Valley Pride Angus Beef 61226 BEEF CHUCK 2PC BNLS; Packed on 2/16/23.” The packages are marked “EST. M-19549” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The beef chuck may be infected by E. coli, which the FSIS discovered during routine testing.

Elkhorn Valley distributed the beef chuck in Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Eating the beef chuck listed in the E. coli recall could lead to diarrhea (often bloody) and vomiting, along with more severe illnesses, according to recall.

The normal treatment for E. coli illness is vigorous rehydration and supportive care.
