QuickStand Lite workstations have recently been recalled due to concerns that the arm can break, causing the workstation to fall.
On Sept. 17, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that Humanscale Corporation would be recalling their QuickStand Lite workstations for repair due to a fall and injury risk. The announcement was reportedly made in conjunction with Health Canada, Canada’s primary regulator.
The QuickStand Lite units are adjustable workstations that can hold one or two computer monitor screens. The workstations reportedly include a keyboard platform and an adjustable arm, with the unit measuring around 19.5 inches high and about 25.6 inches wide.
QuickStand Lite workstations sold for around $600 at furniture stores and online from January 2015 to November 2018.
Humanscale has reportedly received 52 reports of the workstation arm breaking, including 12 reports involving injury when the arm broke and fell onto consumers. The recall of this product includes around 22,700 units, about 2,200 of which were sold in Canada.
When consumers contact Humanscale, they will be sent a free repair kit within eight to 12 weeks. The repair kit will reportedly include complete instructions.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you very much for your prompt attention to this replacement,” the company states on their website. “Humanscale takes the health and well-being of our customers seriously, and is taking proactive steps to ensure your safety.”
If consumers have further questions about the recall, they can contact Humanscale at 855-319-0315 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday to Friday or by email at QSLinquiry@Humanscale.com.
Other products have been recalled lately across numerous industries including food and technology.
On Sept. 4, a large recall was initiated by John Deere. According to the CPSC, the recall includes 20,000 John Deere XUV835 Gator utility vehicles. A defect with the vehicles’ throttle cable can reportedly cause the throttle to stick – meaning that operators are unable to stop the vehicle. This can pose serious risks for accidents and injury.
The CPSC announced on Sept. 5 the recall of STIHL PolyCut Mowing Heads. The bolts that hold these mowing heads together reportedly come loose during use. This can lead to injury of users and any bystanders. The manufacturer reportedly received 28 reports of loose bolts, including two reports of injuries.
On Sept. 10, the CPSC announced that they were coordinating the recall of DIANA Stormrider Gen 2 Air Rifles. These air rifles can reportedly discharge unexpectedly even if the safety is on. Around 1,400 units are included in the recall.
Although the CPSC is in charge of product recalls, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) takes the lead on recalled food and medications.
On Sept. 16, the FDA announced the recall of Gold Medal Unbleached All Purpose Flour due to concerns that the flour was contaminated with E. coli. The recall includes 120,000 5 pound bags of the flour, but other flour from the company is not affected.
