Tyson has expanded its recall on pre-cooked chicken products tainted with listeria and GM has recalled more than 400,000 trucks equipped with side airbags that can unexpectedly explode.
Tyson Expands Chicken Recall
Tyson Foods has widened its recall on ready-to-eat chicken products that may be contaminated with listeria. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) updated its notice Thursday, adding an additional 450,000 pounds of product.
In addition, grocery chain Albertsons announced Wednesday that it was recalling grab-and-go pizzas, focaccia, and other items containing Tyson chicken.
The Tyson chicken recall went from more than 8.4 million pounds to nearly 9 million pounds, according to the update.
“The recalled product names and product codes remain the same,” notes the USDA notice. “While the product was distributed to schools, it resulted from a commercial sale and was not part of food provided by the USDA for the National School Lunch Program.”
GM Exploding Airbags
More than 400,000 GM trucks have been recalled after reports that the side airbags can explode unexpectedly, causing parts to shoot into the cabin.
On Friday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that the airbag inflator in 2015 and 2016 GMC Sierra and Chevrolet 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks can rupture without warning. The vehicle safety defect exists on both sides of the vehicle, say the documents, and the NHTSA has received three reports of exploding side airbags in 2015 Silverado.
GM told regulators that moisture got into the inflators when they were manufactured by Joyson Safety Systems, located in Mexico.
Owners can take the recalled trucks to a dealership for a free repair and replacement of the air bag inflators.
Consumers can check to see if their vehicles are a part of the GM SUV recall or another safety defect recall by visiting the NHTSA website and entering their 17-digit vehicle identification number.
Top Class Actions will continue to monitor recalls in the interest of consumer safety.
