Grocery chain Albertsons announced Wednesday that it is expanding the recall on Tyson ready-to-eat chicken to include “grab-and-go” products.
Earlier in the week, Tyson Foods recalled almost 8.5 million pounds of ready-to-eat chicken products after three cases of listeriosis were linked to the products, including one case that proved fatal.
Albertsons said in an announcement issued Wednesday that they are removing chicken pesto focaccia whole pizzas and slices, barbecue chicken pizza and shredded chicken items that contain recalled Tyson chicken. The recalled grab-and-go products were sold at Safeway and Acme locations in multiple states, including Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington D.C.
Albertsons noted in its Wednesday news release that no listeria-related illnesses linked to the recalled grab-and-go products have been reported, according to Winsight Grocery Business.
On Thursday, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) updated the details of the recall to include additional date codes.
“The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. P-7089” on the product bag or inside the USDA mark of inspection,” states the recall notice. “These items were shipped nationwide to retailers and institutions, including hospitals, nursing facilities, restaurants, schools and Department of Defense locations.”
In total, nearly 9 million pounds of Tyson ready-to-eat chicken has been recalled, according to the USDA.
The frozen, fully cooked chicken products were produced between December 26, 2020 and April 13, 2021, says the USDA notice which contains a full list of the recalled items.
“Consumers should not eat these products. Institutions should not serve these products. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” warn regulators.
Top Class Actions will continue to monitor this and other food safety recalls to help keep consumers informed.
