CamelBak has recalled 46,000 of its Podium and Peak Fitness water bottles due to a choking risk posed by the water bottles’ caps.

In the recall notice, the company says that a small silicone valve in the caps sold can come loose and detach, posing a choking hazard.

CamelBak has received 14 reports of the silicone valve coming loose in the cap and detaching, but no injuries have been reported so far, the company says.

Although CamelBak is not currently facing legal action for the water bottle caps, Top Class Actions monitors recalls in the interest of consumer protection.

The affected water bottles sold in the United States and Canada – where another 13,000 were sold – come in a variety of colors in the 17, 21- and 24-ounce sizes. CamelBak and Podium or Peak Fitness are written on the bottles.

Products with three date codes, which can be located on the bottom of the cap, are being recalled. The date codes are H19039, H19063 and H19175. The bottles were sold at sporting goods stores nationwide and online at camelbak.com from February 2019 through January 2021 for between $10 and $25.

Customers are being urged to immediately stop using the recalled caps sold with the water bottles and contact CamelBak for a free replacement cap.

In May, the federal government ordered the destruction of all Real Water products after the alkaline water product was linked to more than 50 cases of viral hepatitis. At least five cases of acute liver failure in children have been reported, along with the death of a woman in her sixties, have been linked to Real Water, according to 8 News Now, a Las Vegas CBS affiliate. The company was facing several investigations and multiple class action and other lawsuits
