Target has recalled its Room Essentials Shower Stool, warning users that the item can become unstable while in use potentially resulting in a fall.

More than 58,000 of the white, three-legged shower stools were sold at Target stores across the nation, as well as online, according to the recall notice issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Wednesday. The Target recall says that consumers should stop using the shower stools immediately and either return them to a store or contact the retailer for a full refund.

The Room Essential Shower Stools stand approximately 18 inches and have an aluminum frame and curved seat. They were sold exclusively at Target for approximately $35 between March 2019 and September 2020. They can be identified by a “Room Essentials” logo and item number 064-20-1091 printed on the front of the item’s hangtag.

“Target has received 12 reports of consumers falling off the recalled shower stools, including four reports of bruises, bumps and scratches, and one report of an arm sprain,” states the recall notice

The Target recall notice indicates that, in addition to becoming unstable and falling, the stools can be come slippery while in use. Many elderly consumers and those with limited mobility rely on extra support while showering or bathing. A slippery or unstable product in the bathroom can be risky to frail individuals who can suffer major injuries in a fall.

Consumers who need more information can contact Target at 800-440-0680 or online.
