Several class action settlements opened last month for consumers to join through November and beyond. 

The class action settlements resolve claims of a data breach, debris accumulation, unsolicited text messages, product defects and false advertising, among other things. 

A company will often agree to a class action settlement — without admitting to any fault or liability — to prevent further litigation and build good faith with consumers.

Green Dot agrees to pay more than $33 million to end claims it sent unsolicited texts

Green Dot agreed to pay more than $33 million last month to resolve claims the company allegedly sends unsolicited telemarketing text messages to consumers. 

The class action settlement will benefit consumers who, since April 20, 2017, attempted to opt out of receiving text messages from Green Dot but still received one from the banking company anyway. 

Individuals wanting to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Nov. 9. 

General Electric makes settlement to halt claims it failed to prevent 2020 data breach

Also last month, General Electric agreed to a class action settlement to end claims the company could not ward off a 2020 data breach

The class action settlement benefits consumers who received a letter from General Electric saying that their personal information may have been compromised during the data breach in February 2020. 

Consumers must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 22 to qualify for the class action settlement. 

Settlement ends claims LeafFilter gutter filter systems susceptible to debris buildup

LeafFilter agreed to a class action settlement last month that resolved claims it manufactured gutter filter systems susceptible to twig, leaf and pollen buildup

The class action settlement will benefit customers in LeafFilter’s customer care database who filed a service request for debris-related issues between January 2016 and June 24, 2022. 

Individuals must submit a valid claim form by Feb. 4, 2023, to join the class action settlement. 

Toyota settles to resolve claims it equipped Toyota, Lexus vehicles with defective fuel pumps 

Also last month, Toyota agreed to a class action settlement that will end allegations the company equipped certain Toyota and Lexus vehicles with defective fuel pumps. 

The class action settlement benefits current and former owners and lessees of specific Toyota and Lexus vehicles covered by a recall conducted on account of the defect, in addition to vehicles equipped with Denso fuel pumps and special service campaign vehicles. 

The deadline to join the class action settlement is estimated to be March 14, 2023. 

Avis agrees to pay $45 million to resolve claims it charged hidden fees

Avis Budget Group, meanwhile, agreed to pay $45 million last month to resolve claims the company charged hidden fees to vehicle renters who used electronic toll payment services. 

The class action settlement will benefit Avis or Budget vehicle renters who paid either Avis, Budget or the Highway Toll Administration for e-Toll services between April 1, 2007, and Dec. 31, 2015. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Feb. 28, 2023. 

Smashburger to pay $5.5 million to halt claims it falsely advertised hamburgers contained ‘double the beef’

Smashburger agreed to a class action settlement worth $5.5 million that will end allegations the restaurant chain falsely advertised that the hamburgers it sells contain “double the beef.” 

The class action settlement benefits consumers who purchased a French Onion Triple Double hamburger, Triple Double hamburger, Bacon Triple Double hamburger and/or Pub Triple Double hamburger from Smashburger from July 1, 2017, to May 31, 2019. 

To join the class action settlement, consumers must submit a valid claim form by Jan. 17, 2023. 

Abbott puts to bed claims it falsely advertised Similac formula serving sizes with $19.5 million settlement

Last month, Abbott Laboratories also agreed to a class action settlement worth $19.5 million that will resolve claims the company falsely advertised the number of servings its Similac baby formula yields. 

The class action settlement will benefit consumers who purchased certain Similac baby formula products between June 24, 2016, and Sept. 22, 2022. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Jan. 31, 2023. 

Medicredit agrees to pay $1.95 million to end claims it sent unsolicited robocalls

Medicredit agreed to pay $1.95 million to resolve claims the company broke the law by allegedly sending consumers unsolicited robocalls. 

The class action settlement benefits consumers who received an automated robocall from Medicredit with a pre-recorded or artificial voice between Dec. 16, 2017, and July 7, 2022. 

Consumers must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 6 to qualify for the class action settlement. 

Settlement resolves claims USAA Insurance failed to include sales tax in total loss payouts in Ohio

Also last month, USAA Insurance agreed to a class action settlement that will settle claims the company failed to incorporate sales tax into total-loss payouts for policyholders in Ohio. 

The class action settlement will benefit USAA policyholders in Ohio who submitted a total loss claim to USAA and its various entities. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Jan. 4, 2023. 

Vehicle owners to benefit from $3.152 million settlement made to resolve antitrust claims

Owners of certain vehicles may benefit from a $3.152 million class action settlement completed last month, the fifth round of a $1.2 billion settlement that resolves antitrust claims

The class action settlement benefits consumers who either purchased or leased an eligible new vehicle between 2002 and 2018 or who paid to replace a qualifying vehicle part.

Consumers must submit a valid claim form by Jan. 7, 2023, to qualify for the class action settlement.

    I would like to know if I have a claim regarding cannabis that doesn’t list sativa but only indica or hybrid. I cannot take sativa, ended up in hospital was told only to use sativa. The employees give me sativa, I get sick at home, then googled ingredients to find that it contains SATIVA, this has happen several times. I have severe Anxiety, PTSD can I file a top class action lawsuit?
