Acura agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims its hands-free system is defective.

The settlement benefits consumers who purchased 2004-2008 Acura TL, 2005-2008 Acura MDX or 2007-2009 Acura RDX vehicles in California, Kansas, New York and Washington before the vehicles reached 10 years or 120,000 miles.

Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claim excessive parasitic drain allegedly causes the Honda’s hands-free link systems to switch off improperly when not in use.

Honda is an automotive manufacturer that sells vehicles under various brands, including Acura.  Honda’s hands-free link system allows consumers to connect their phones to their vehicles via Bluetooth.

Honda hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum as part of the Honda hands-free defect settlement.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive up to $500 in reimbursement if they paid out-of-pocket to have their hands-free link replaced within 10 years or 120,000 miles of the original vehicle purchase. These replacements must have a documented link to excessive parasitic drain from the systems.

Class members whose hands-free link systems were disconnected within 10 years or 120,000 of the original vehicle purchase can receive $350 payments. These disconnections do not need to have a documented link to parasitic drain.

The deadline for exclusion and objection was April 18, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Aug. 15, 2024.

To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by May 30, 2024.
