Integris Health class action overview:

  • Who: A new class action has been filed over the Integris Health data breach of patients’ personal information.
  • Why: Integris Health is accused of not protecting the data of 2 million patients, many of whom received demands to pay $50 to buy back their own information.
  • Where: The Integris Health data breach lawsuit was filed in federal court in Oklahoma.

A new class action has been filed over the Integris Health data breach, which affected nearly 2 million patients’ personal information.

The new class action is just one of several filed over the breach after patients allegedly received emails from cybercriminals asking them to pay to get their data back. The criminals allegedly posted patients’ personal data on a dark web store that allowed breach victims to either purchase the “exclusive rights” to their data for $50 or buy a copy of their data for $3.

The cybercriminals claimed they decided to extort patients for their personal information after Integris Health refused to pay them, the class action says.

Integris Health data breach victims at ‘imminent risk’ of identity theft, lawsuit claims

Lead plaintiff Teresa Johnston said in the class action that the cybercriminals sent emails to her and other Integris Health patients containing their addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth and Social Security numbers to prove that the data breach claims were legitimate.

“This disturbing email from the cybercriminals makes it clear that” the plaintiffs and class “are at an imminent risk of fraud and identity theft,” the class action says.

Johnston filed the class action on behalf of all victims of the Integris Health data breach. She is asking for compensatory damages, punitive damages, nominal damages, restitution, injunctive and declaratory relief and attorney fees and costs, the class action says.

A major data breach of 26 billion records from companies around the world included prominent brands such as Venmo, Canva, LinkedIn, X and Adobe.

My husband’s information was also part of this breach. Shortly after receiving his letter my complete phone service was transferred to a different provider leaving me with no phone service. Because of this I immediately changed our phone number, email addresses, user names, passwords, screen lock codes. Everyday I worry about what might happen. It’s left us with the feeling of looking over our shoulders & blocking key pads when entering PIN numbers. A very uneasy feeling to go through your day feeling.

My husband and I both received letters regarding our data breach by Intrigris. We are both elderly and this plays into our mental/physical health
