Suja cold-pressed juice class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Rachel Lumbra filed a class action lawsuit against Suja Life, LLC.
  • Why: Lumbra claims Suja misleadingly represents that its “Cold-Pressed” juice products are fresh.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in New York federal court.

Suja Life misleadingly represents that its Suja “Cold-Pressed” juices are fresh, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Rachel Lumbra claims Suja’s “Cold-Pressed” juices are also subject to high pressure processing, a “non-thermal treatment method to preserve juice for up to 60 days.”

Lumbra argues that juice which is subjected to a high pressure processing treatment method is “no longer fresh” and that Suja is misleading consumers by only describing its juice product as “Cold-Pressed.”

“By describing the Product as ‘Cold-Pressed’ without any prominent, clear disclaimers of other processing steps, consumers expect it will be fresh,” states the Suja class action.

Lumbra wants to represent a New York Class and multi-state consumer subclass of individuals who have purchased Suja’s “Cold-Pressed” juice product.

Suja offers ‘no visible explanation’ for what high pressure certified means

Suja does include a “small seal” near the bottom of the front of the bottle stating that it is “High Pressure Certified,” however, there is “no visible explanation” describing what it means, the Suja class action alleges.

“Given that all juices are made by applying pressure, even if consumers notice this seal, they will believe it refers to the cold-pressing,” states the Suja class action.

Consumers ultimately pay a premium price for the Suja “Cold-Pressed” juice, Lumbra argues, on account of the company’s allegedly false and misleading representations of the product.

Lumbra claims Suja is guilty of unjust enrichment, fraud, and negligent representation, and in violation of the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act, New York General Business Law, and multiple state consumer fraud acts.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory relief along with an award of monetary, statutory, and/or punitive damages for himself and all Class Members.

A similar class action lawsuit was filed against Trader Joe’s in April over claims the company misleadingly markets its juices as “cold pressed” despite them being processed further after the initial pressing

  1. Sadeja Riley says:

I order this product all the time for past few years as I have heart defect and my mother has ladas diabetes and neuropathy and per claims of helping with sight, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal as my mother also has arthritis I’ve been buying this product for past 3 years for us from Target. I’m disturbed and very upset with wasted high expense on these products that aren’t proven cold press pure products without knowledge of its process and inability to present fact in it being cold pressed. I want involvement in class action lawsuit.
