(Aug. 30, 2022)

A Caesar dressing sold under the Whole Foods Market 365 brand is being recalled because it contains allergens that are not listed on the ingredients label, due to the wrong label being placed on the product.

Van Law Food Products Inc. announced Aug. 16 it had recalled its Whole Foods Market 365 Organic Creamy Caesar Dressing because it contains undeclared soy and wheat allergens.

The recall notice was posted to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website and applies to Whole Foods Market 365 Organic Creamy Caesar Dressing with UPC code 99482-49027 in 12oz glass bottles with a best by date of 04/06/2023.

Consumers who bought the dressing should “discard the product and seek a refund at the point of sale with receipt,” the recall states.

The company said that people with an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy or wheat run the risk of “serious or life-threatening allergic reaction” if they consume the ingredients.

No illnesses have been reported to date, the recall states.

Van Law Food Products Inc. is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Wrong label was placed on Whole Foods Market 365 Caesar dressing

The recall was initiated after Van Law Food Products Inc. discovered the product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of soy and wheat allergen.

Subsequent investigation indicated that the problem was caused when the back label from another product was mistakenly put on the product being recalled, the company said.

The product was sold in the produce or dairy department of stores, and was distributed in the states of Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

A number of complaints involving Whole Foods and Amazon have been in the headlines recently with class action lawsuits revolving around improper labeling and allegedly contaminated products, among other things. Click here for more details.

Meanwhile, Whole Foods lies to customers that its beef products are “antibiotic-free” when independent testing has allegedly found traces of antibiotics in the meat, a new class action lawsuit claims.
