Frontier Communications internet billA class action lawsuit has been filed against Frontier Communications in federal court in California by a consumer who claims that the cable company charges more than the agreed to price for their internet, video, TV, & phone services.

Plaintiff Sohail Mahboubain states that Frontier has not honored the deals, discounts and promotions it offers.

Instead, the company allegedly charges consumers for services at different and much higher prices than what the customers agree to.

The plaintiff claims that customers of Frontier are not aware of these practices until they are provided with their billing statements.

In addition, Frontier does not resolve consumer complaints about the erroneous invoices, according to the plaintiff.

The Frontier class action claims that the problem started when Frontier acquired Verizon Communications Inc.’s operations in California, Texas, and Florida in April 2016.

The plaintiff says, that prior to April 2017, he contacted Frontier to obtain telephone services, as his prior services with the company were about to expire.

He claims that Frontier orally offered to provide him with the same services that he had with Verizon, which was a 2-year deal for high-speed internet and two telephone lines for $89.99 per month.

The plaintiff notes that he was told by Frontier that the main telephone line would be “unlimited” and that the backup line would be billed on a per call basis. Mahboubian was allegedly told that this price would be reflected in the new billing cycle.

“Despite Defendants’ representations, Plaintiff was charged a price that was different, and much higher than what Defendants originally offered, and what Plaintiff agreed to,” the Frontier class action lawsuit asserts.

The Frontier Communications class action claims that the defendants “deliberately” switched assignment of the two telephone lines, in that the main line charges were per call and the other line was assigned to the “unlimited” price.

As a result of this practice, the plaintiff allegedly experienced costs which were above what was originally agreed to.

Once he found out that the services were higher than anticipated, the plaintiff claims that he tried to fix the problem with Frontier Communications but the defendant refused to correct the billing errors.

The plaintiff reportedly then sent a demand letter to the defendants on Feb. 15, 2018 and, as a result, Frontier asked him his account number, which he provided over email. He has not heard back from Frontier since then regarding this issue, according to the Frontier pricing class action lawsuit.

The Frontier Communications class action alleges that the Frontier’s actions are in violation of California’s Unfair Competition Law as well as the California Consumers Legal Remedies Act and has filed additional claims for unjust enrichment.

Proposed Class Members in this class action lawsuit are: “All persons residing in the United States who, between the applicable statute of limitations and the present, are current and former customers of Defendants, who were offered a particular price to avail of Defendants’ telephone and/or internet services (the ‘Services’), but who were charged a price that was different from what was promised.”

    I’m interested!

They offered me FiOS (used to be Verizon her in CA) for $35 for first year, then $45 after that. They charged me $10/mo add-on fee for a router I declined. They told me that was part of the first year’s deal. After the first year they kept charge me for the ghost router, I contacted them and they told me that they can see it in their system and I must have it. After a few phone calls, they agreed I don’t have their router and they dropped the $10/mo charge, however they could not retro back.
After the first year they have been silently increasing their monthly fee annually by $5-$10. No communication, but a sudden line on the bill stating that their is a $5 promotional discount till the next price increase.
Since the availability of high speed ISPs (>100mbps) are limited, they are well aware that they can and how to monopolize their position.

  2. Rich K. says:

Frontier is deceptive. Charged for a router for 3.5 years that I never needed. Was offered $5 a month discount that expired. I would essentially pay $10 a month to turn it in. Their rep this week was surprised to hear of this arrangement. They should refund me all 3 years for something not needed but charged for. They also do not post prices for existing customers to upgrade or downgrade. The opaque customer communication has made this all the more frustrating.

A month ago I switched from Spectrum to Frontier. I used to pay Spectrum $105 for 2 lines and internet. Spectrum wants to raise the price, I called in and they were going to give me for $120/ month. But I kept getting a bill for $159.97/month. Spectrum will not honor it. Then a sales person from Frontier show up, I told her about my situation. She said she is able to beat, or at least match the price for $120/ month. However, I got a bill for $193.75 instead. I text the Frontier sale person, she said for the first month, there is a one time install fee and the prorate from Spectrum. The second month will be $120. However, the second month I got a bill for $169.69. When I call in, Frontier told me $120 is without the the tax and surcharge. When adding the tax and surcharge the total will be $169.69. That is not what the salesperson told me when they persuade me switch. Obviously, both Frontier and Spectrum plays similar games. Since I am already out of Spectrum, and in contract with Frontier, I want Frontier to honor their promise. I end up paying even more by switching Frontier. No company should be allow to do business by tricking and misleading customers.

Inwas charged THREE times for the month of October. One of those times I paid the payment with my credit card and a day later I was charged a second time for the same price! Thats two payments for October. Then once they finally refunded my money, I have an outstanding balance (which makes thats number three for october.) They said pay it or get late fees. I am NOT paying THREE payments for the month of October. I was on the phone and chat for over two hours and it has yet to be corrected. To make matters worse, they advised me to call today to get a new promo pricing only to be told there aren’t any and that my bill rather will be going yp $10. This is plain out fraud!!!! I needed to be added to this!

  5. Veronica says:

Frontier says they cannot find my payment for 510.52 that I made with rep but they see the 2. I made online I ended up paying 1100.00 in one day I did owe 408.00 I don’t know why if it’s 45 or 54 a month and if they turn off you then have to pay 85 activation fee and deposit well I’ve called them at least 7 times on this issue I get different answer every time they pass phone to 3 or more times and still they cannot find payment then they said they might keep but how are you going to keep if you don’t see I called BofA they can do claim investigation but that takes 30-45 days there customer service is as confused as I am not to mention the prices are way different than what was told

  9. Ginger Smith says:

We are in Florida as Frontier customers for phone, TV and Internet. Frontier has dropped at least four channels on us, saying we must now pay an additional $20 per month to get them back as they are now in a higher priced package. We have only been back with them since March of this year. I do not understand why we, as consumers must pay the same amount for reduced service and how this company can get by with taking away channels that they agreed to provide us – one way for sure and not in favor of the consumer. Shouldn’t both the company and the consumer be bound by the agreement?

    9/15/2020
I started a landline phone and internet service with Frontier Communications on behalf of my 86 year old father who lives alone on January 13th, 2020. I was remodeling the home where my father lives along with several other subcontractors. Frontier failed to complete the installation for the internet that was never used. The landline had spotty reception at best. The installer for Frontier told me he was going to “Check on the signal” but he never returned to complete the installation. I called Frontier the next day to ask why he didn’t finish and that i needed somone to return to complete the installation ASAP. They told me I had to pay $75 for a service call! I told them this was not acceptable. Your installed never comleted the installation. I got a letter from a collection agency Credit Control Corp in Newport News Virginia asking me to dispute verify this account.
I sent Credit Control Corp a letter dated June 12,2020 telling them about this situation with Frontier and that i never signed a finish work order because the work was never completed. I asked for validation of the debt like a signed work order.
On August 10th (Post marked) almost two months after asking for validation of the debt, the only thing Credit Control Corp sent me was a list of phone calls my father made mostly to me complaining the phone service was terrible and Frontier Communications never completed the installation of the internet.
I called Credit Control Corp today 9-15-2020 and they refused to consider Frontier Communication did anything wrong or should provide any further proof of this installation not being completed. Credit Control Corp can’t send me validation the debt exists or the work was performed because the proof doesn’t exist. I have 5 sub contractors who were working at that house that day who can verify everything i say here.
I made it clear my father needs service and i am willing to pay after installation and service that works properly. It took almost two months of my credit being negatively effected by Credit Control Corp sent a letter back that proves nothing but negligence from Frontier Communications. Credit Control Corp wasted no time at all to ding my credit but took their time to prove the debt should even exist. I never signed any work order for completion. Credit Control Corp should remove this from my credit report now.

There is a reason Credit Control Corp and Frontier Communications have such poor reviews. Zero stars if i could.
