Frontier Communications internet billA class action lawsuit has been filed against Frontier Communications in federal court in California by a consumer who claims that the cable company charges more than the agreed to price for their internet, video, TV, & phone services.

Plaintiff Sohail Mahboubain states that Frontier has not honored the deals, discounts and promotions it offers.

Instead, the company allegedly charges consumers for services at different and much higher prices than what the customers agree to.

The plaintiff claims that customers of Frontier are not aware of these practices until they are provided with their billing statements.

In addition, Frontier does not resolve consumer complaints about the erroneous invoices, according to the plaintiff.

The Frontier class action claims that the problem started when Frontier acquired Verizon Communications Inc.’s operations in California, Texas, and Florida in April 2016.

The plaintiff says, that prior to April 2017, he contacted Frontier to obtain telephone services, as his prior services with the company were about to expire.

He claims that Frontier orally offered to provide him with the same services that he had with Verizon, which was a 2-year deal for high-speed internet and two telephone lines for $89.99 per month.

The plaintiff notes that he was told by Frontier that the main telephone line would be “unlimited” and that the backup line would be billed on a per call basis. Mahboubian was allegedly told that this price would be reflected in the new billing cycle.

“Despite Defendants’ representations, Plaintiff was charged a price that was different, and much higher than what Defendants originally offered, and what Plaintiff agreed to,” the Frontier class action lawsuit asserts.

The Frontier Communications class action claims that the defendants “deliberately” switched assignment of the two telephone lines, in that the main line charges were per call and the other line was assigned to the “unlimited” price.

As a result of this practice, the plaintiff allegedly experienced costs which were above what was originally agreed to.

Once he found out that the services were higher than anticipated, the plaintiff claims that he tried to fix the problem with Frontier Communications but the defendant refused to correct the billing errors.

The plaintiff reportedly then sent a demand letter to the defendants on Feb. 15, 2018 and, as a result, Frontier asked him his account number, which he provided over email. He has not heard back from Frontier since then regarding this issue, according to the Frontier pricing class action lawsuit.

The Frontier Communications class action alleges that the Frontier’s actions are in violation of California’s Unfair Competition Law as well as the California Consumers Legal Remedies Act and has filed additional claims for unjust enrichment.

Proposed Class Members in this class action lawsuit are: “All persons residing in the United States who, between the applicable statute of limitations and the present, are current and former customers of Defendants, who were offered a particular price to avail of Defendants’ telephone and/or internet services (the ‘Services’), but who were charged a price that was different from what was promised.”

Frontier gave me a contract and I signed it and they totally dont care. They are charging me almost twice as much as agreed to and they wont make it cheaper. I have no other option in my area, so I have to have them and i truly cant afford what they are charging me.

Add me to the list of Frontier users that was on a promo plan, when that plan was set to expire my bill should have only gone up $10 per the discounts shown on the bill.

I was paying $39.99 with a $10 off 2-year promo. You would assume after two years, I would pay $49.99. Nope, it went to $81.99 and they added other promos to hide the price increase.

The website currently shows a promotion where you will receive $200 if you switch to the gigabyte service. I combed over the fine print and found nothing stating it was only for new customers yet they refused to honor it after I pointed this out and that this is being deliberately misadvertised. Currently, I have the 500/500 service but Im only getting about 300/300 “due to bandwidth usage in my area” which puzzles me because if they know that some speed is lost due to usage, they should compensate to make sure what I receive is what I pay for- usage speed loss due to the number of customers for my area shouldnt come out of my pocket. With the 1gig/1gig I dont know what my speed will actually be but I doubt it will be 1 gig. As far as pricing goes, I signed up for 50/month but somehow im now paying $68 a month when you add the bogus fees they tack on.

I have had Frontier for the 35 years I have resided at my address. Our location is 2.5 miles from the office and we barely get internet. I have argued with Frontier for years to no avail and along the way they changed the contract (without my consent) that they don’t have to provide anything to my home but can charge full price. The local office knows they cannot serve what they promise but cannot do anything about it. I have been repeatedly promised that a fiberoptic line will be put in to solve all my problems but in all these years this has never happened. I am thoroughly disgusted with this rip-off company. P.S. Nothing else is available to those of us in our community and we are prisoners. I am trying to be an online student but obviously I am blocked on that score. I would be a good witness for the ongoing Frontier case since I have been a customer for so long…………………

Worst cable service I’ve ever had, since first signing up in the mid 1980s. Erroneous charges, outages on a regular basis, and worst customer service of any company I’ve ever dealt with. Switching to Direct TV, just to get decent service and sports channels. Will switch to another internet/phone provider also, ASAP. If I can, count me in on the class action suit.

  7. C. Long says:

I’m a Florida Frontier customer with landline and DSL Internet. I was with Verizon until Frontier bought Verizon 4/1/2016. My DSL is under a “guaranteed-for-life” price contract entered with Verizon 9/1/2008. When Frontier bought Verizon in my area they promised the news media they would uphold Verizon price contracts. On 12/16/2017 Frontier began adding an “Internet Infrastructure Surcharge” of $1.99 despite at that time stating in a notice on the bill that this charge would not apply to fixed-price accounts. They refused to remove it, but I got them to credit my bill monthly including the raise to $3.99 in 2019 which credit has continued. On 3/16/2021 the charge went to $6.99 and they not only refuse to increase the credit they will be discontinuing it altogether, now both affirming and denying, depending on which email you read, that my account is fixed-price per contract. On contracted accounts similar to mine still carried by Verizon, Verizon has never added such a surcharge. Frontier has made false promises it will now not abide by. Is there a chance I could join the class action?

How do I join this class action lawsuit. My cancellation fee should not go over $800 as said on my contract they are trying to make me pay over $1100 on a statement that is very hard to look at stating that I’m will be paying the $1100 for the pay period of feb/2021 – mar/2021 which is supposed to left over months of about one year of early termination condensed to one month pay period. Nowhere have they started that I will be cancelling service. I can’t this horrendous act of incompetency go on any longer please help.

  9. Paul Fusco says:

This company is by far the most corrupt, incompetent and utterly deceptive companies I’ve ever dealt with. I have wasted more than 50 hours trying to settle issues from service issues, erroneous billing practices. I can’t begin to describes my frustration at this inept and crooked company.

  10. Samantha G says:

HAVE BEEN GETTING THE EXACT SAME DECEPTIVE PRACTICES IN UPSTATE, NY FOR YEARS NOW AS THEY WERE MY ONLY INTERNET OPTION! CHARGED FOR SERVICE NOT RECEIVED- ADMITTED ERRORS ON THEIR END THAT THEY REFUSE TO ADJUST AND THEN CANCEL YOUR SERVICE FORCING YOU TO PAY MORE FEES EVEN AFTER THEY FIND THEIR MISTAKES!!! THOSE RECORDS ALWAYS DISAPPEAR BUT I LEARNED TO RECORD ALL IF MY CALLS WITH THEM A LONG TIME AGO!!!!! HOW DO WE SIGN ON? THEY NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AS IM STILL WAITING FOR A CALL BACK BUT THEY ONLY HAVE BILLING CALL NEVER SUPERVISORS OR CUSTOMER RELATIONS! IF I HAD A DOLLAR FOR THE DAYS WASTED ON THE PHONE WITH THEM!!!!! I HAD A ONLINE BUSINESS GO UNDER IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING IT AS WELL AS LOOSING CRITICAL VARIOUS FORMS OF INFORMATION DIRECTLY BEFORE COURT DATES- THEIR TIMING ALMOST SEEMED PLANNED SOMETIMES!
