Consumer complaints over the 2020 Acura RDX cite a sudden acceleration-deceleration problem. The last thing any vehicle owner wants is a car, truck or SUV with a defect. Although some may be more serious than others, any kind of auto defect can be a potential danger for the driver, passengers, and others on the road.

Owners or lessees of a 2020 Acura RDX SUV may be facing a serious deceleration issue in which the vehicle stalls or suddenly decelerates without warning. Obviously, this issue can be highly problematic since it can reportedly occur while driving at high speeds, switching lanes on the highway, or in other precarious situations where sudden deceleration could prove fatal.

Already, a consumer has registered a complaint about this issue occurring with their 2020 Acura RDX. According to a complaint filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a 2020 Acura RDX owner said that while accelerating to 45 mph to pass another vehicle, the RDX ā€œsuddenly lost power and the check engine indicator flashed. The vehicle went into limp mode and slowed down to only 10 mph.ā€

The complaint notes that when the driver pulled over, then restarted the vehicle, it functioned normally. The car had just 3,400 miles at the time of the failure.

This complaint is similar to a slew of others filed by owners and lessees of the 2019 Acura RDX reporting the same issue. One consumer wrote on CarComplaints.com that when accelerating to pass a truck on a highway, the engine of their 2019 Acura RDX, ā€œlost power and the engine malfunction light began blinking ā€¦ The car decelerated and would not go over 20 mph.ā€ Fortunately, this driver was able to pull over and avoid an accident. When the vehicle was turned off and then back on, it resumed functioning like normal, the complaint says.

This acceleration-deceleration defect has been referred to as ā€œlimp mode.ā€ Some drivers have reported the same defect occurring several times in the same car. One person noted that the issue has happened to them four times, ā€œtwice putting [their] safety in jeopardy.ā€

According to that same complaint, ā€œAcura has refused to resolve this issue, claiming they cannot duplicate it. A recall should be instituted before someone is injured or killed by this serious safety issue.ā€

Over the last 50 years, the NHTSA has recalled more than 390 million vehicles for a variety of safety defects.
