Some consumers have reported experiencing driving at high speeds on the highway and intending to change lanes only to be hit with unexpected deceleration. Instead of accelerating as normal, Acura RDX vehicles affected by the problem reportedly go “limp.”

When a car goes into “limp” mode, the cause is traditionally a serious problem with the transmission system. This may be the case with the Acura RDX, although the problem could also be associated with the vehicle’s lane change assist feature.

Regardless of the cause behind the limp mode, numerous owners and lessees have reportedly experienced the issue.

Several consumers have reportedly submitted complaints with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Drivers report operating their Acura RDX vehicles at higher speeds, while on the highway or passing other vehicles, only to have their speeds suddenly drop.

After experiencing the limp mode, some drivers have said they have been forced to pull over onto the shoulder. In some cases, drivers are reportedly able to restart the vehicle without any issues – only a lingering sense of uncertainty. In other cases, the vehicles needed to be towed to a dealership to have the issue evaluated.

One Arkansas driver allegedly experienced the issue twice despite having less than 5400 miles on the car. While accelerating on the interstate to around 70 mph, the driver says his car allegedly lost power completely, leaving them without control of the vehicle’s speed.

“The car totally loses power and engine light comes on leaving us in a very unsafe position in the fast lane of travel,” the driver wrote. “We barely avoided collisions making it to the shoulder.”

Some drivers have taken to other online forums such as Car Complaints to talk about their Acura RDX problems.

An Oklahoma driver named Brenda reportedly experienced the limp mode issue three times with her husband’s car. The first two times, the issue reportedly happened while driving on “busy city street” and even required towing once. The last time, the couple was reportedly driving on a highway when the car lost power. They were attempting to pass a semi-truck at 80 mph at the time.

“Thank goodness we made it to the shoulder without causing a wreck or being hit,” Brenda wrote in her comment.

Other consumers allegedly experienced the RDX deceleration issue while accelerating onto an on-ramp or passing other vehicles on the highway.

What Can I Do About Acura RDX Problems?

Pursuing a solution for Acura RDX problems can be stressful and disappointing. Consumers have reported taking their car to the dealership only to have no problem identified. With no problem identified, issues cannot be resolved or fixed.

If consumers are routinely experiencing limp mode issues with their Acura RDX, they may be eligible to take legal action. Qualified attorneys are investigating the Acura RDX problem to see if consumers may be able to hold Acura and parent company Honda accountable for potentially selling vehicles with a dangerous defect.
