The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation into a Ford recall.

On Aug. 21, the NHTSA announced it is investigating the automaker’s 2022 recall of nearly 49,000 Ford Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles to assess whether the recall fix adequately addressed concerns, Reuters reports

Ford reportedly issued the June 2022 recall for 2021 and 2022 model year vehicles because high voltage battery main contactors can overheat from DC fast-charging and repeated wide-open pedal events.

This could result in an immediate loss of propulsion power, increasing the risk of a crash, the automaker said.

Following the recall, Ford then reportedly issued a technical service bulletin to replace the high-voltage battery junction box on recalled vehicles.

However, since then, the NHTSA said it had opened a recall inquiry — including looking at whether the recall should be expanded — after receiving 12 consumer complaints regarding vehicles that received recall fixes.

One owner reportedly told NHTSA that, two days after receiving the software update, the vehicle suffered a second catastrophic failure of its high-voltage battery junction box.

The recall query involves 64,000 Mach-E vehicles, the NHTSA said.

The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to lass action lawsuits.

Ford told Reuters it is “working with NHTSA to support their investigation.”

In 2022, Ford Motor Co. was hit with a class action lawsuit alleging it manufactured model year 2020-2022 Mustang Mach-E vehicles with defective high-voltage battery main contactors.

You beat me to it. The link for the 2002 model made me look to see if I had Rip Van Winkled.

  3. Michael Danish says:

I believe that probably should be “2022” and not “2002”
