Subaru has announced a recall of more than 35,000 of its 2024 Crosstrek and Impreza vehicles, as they can suffer a short circuit, increasing the risk of a crash.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website published the recall Aug. 4. It applies to 35,357 of Subaru’s 2024 Crosstrek and Impreza vehicles.
According to the recall, due to insufficient clearance room, the instrument panel harness in the affected vehicles can touch the steering beam bracket, damaging the wire insulation and causing a short circuit.
“A short circuit may cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash,” the Subaru recall states.
The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Dealers to fix issue for free, Subaru recall says
To fix the issue, dealers will inspect the harness and install an additional clamp on the steering beam bracket, the Subaru recall says. If they find damage, dealers will add protective tape or replace the instrument panel harness as necessary.
All repairs will be performed free of charge, the automaker says. It expects to mail owner notification letters Oct. 3, 2023.
In other Subaru news, in April, Subaru of America was hit with a class action lawsuit alleging it manufactured and sold certain vehicles equipped with Starlink infotainment systems containing a defect that has rendered them partially or wholly inoperable.
