Toyota has issued a recall of 168,000 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles as they can develop a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire.
The Toyota website published the recall Aug. 10. It applies to certain 2022 and 2023 model year Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles, the recall says.
The affected vehicles are equipped with a plastic fuel tube that could move and rub against a brake line, resulting in a fuel leak, the Toyota recall states.
“A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could increase the risk of fire,” the Toyota Tundra fuel leak recall says.
The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Toyota offers free fuel tube replacement, recall says
Toyota says it received 14 Toyota Field Technical Reports and 27 warranty claims relating to the condition.
For all affected vehicles, Toyota dealers will replace the fuel tube with an improved part and additional clamps at no cost to customers, the Tundra recall states.
Toyota is preparing the remedy parts for the recall, according to the recall notice. As a temporary measure until the final remedy parts are available, dealers will install protective materials and a clamp on the fuel tube for free.
Toyota will notify affected owners about the issue by early October.
Toyota also recalled Tundras just last year due to an axle shift issue.
