acura rdx infotainment systemA growing number of consumers have reported issues in operation with the Acura RDX Infotainment System, in addition to concerns with similar problems in other Honda models.

For new features in vehicles today, a built in entertainment system is one of the benefits that car buyers look for. But given the dangers of distracted driving, most of these drivers expect the system to function as promised.

Drivers instead are reporting glitches and shutdowns of the infotainment system in the middle of driving, making it hard to figure out what caused the problem or to fix it without getting distracted.

What Is an Infotainment System?

Infotainment is also referred to as in-car entertainment, which is a collection of software and hardware inside a vehicle that provides video or audio entertainment. This originally began with CD and cassette players and radios, but now includes more comprehensive technology like Bluetooth connectivity, USB options, video players, automotive navigation systems, in-car internet and Wi-Fi.

A growing number of buyers of vehicles who were promised a functioning infotainment system report that the ones inside the Acura RDX pose a safety risk to drivers by drawing the operator’s attention to a blue or blank screen when the infotainment system malfunctions.

What Vehicles Are Affected by These Infotainment Problems?

Both the 2018 and 2019 Honda Pilot and Odyssey vehicles allegedly have the same defective infotainment system as the Acura RDX, causing problems with entertainment and vehicle communication and navigation.

A Honda class action lawsuit has already been filed against the manufacturer, arguing that the unexpected problems with the infotainment system create safety risks. Plaintiffs say the Honda infotainment system controls many of the safety features inside the vehicle including the cabin watch, navigation, and the backup camera. In the event that these features fail, the driver becomes distracted in an effort to fix it.

What Are Auto Consumers Complaining About?

Online forums have collected numerous complaints from owners of Honda and Acura RDX vehicles who have claimed that their infotainment system has to be unplugged and re-plugged multiple times.

Other owners say that the rear view camera doesn’t come on immediately and the right turn camera sometimes won’t turn on until after a person has completed a turn. Still others say that electronics inside the vehicle completely shut down on them while they were driving such as lane assist, anti-lock brakes and adaptive cruise control.

Many of the consumers have had to reboot this program entirely, putting them at risk for distracted driving.

Car owners and renters say that some of these Honda and Acura infotainment system problems have occurred just a handful of months into owning the vehicle and that the manufacturers have a responsibility to know about these issues and to report them to consumers who purchased the vehicles.

Various consumers have already taken legal action. Those who have been negatively affected by the failure of the infotainment system could have grounds to pursue a lawsuit against the Acura RDX manufacturers.

RDA 2019 – frustrating experience with the infotainment system. 1) Accidentally I have gone to the MENU and “Removed” first my Bluetooth and the recently the “ApplePlay’ icons. For the life of me I cannot get them back! 2) I get into the vehicle and connect my phone via the USB port with music playing on the phone and the system picks it up; other times the USB is not working at all and not charging me phone nor putting the audio through to the car speakers.
Nothing in the manual indicates how to “remove” or “add back” an App to the Home screen.
    Anyone had this experience?

I bought 2021 RDX and within one month started having an issue with the infotainment system where my screen goes blank for few seconds. It is getting worse

I am having the same problem with a 2019 RDX. Just started. Not sure but it appears the car is cycling between day and night. Mine does not go totally blank but gets very dim for a few seconds during bright daylight and then returns to normal.
