couple holding money from the ADT class action settlementTop Class Actions viewers report that they are receiving checks worth up to $50 from the ADT security hacking class action settlement.

ADT was hit with multiple class action lawsuits alleging the security company falsely advertised their systems. Specifically, their security systems with a wireless peripheral censor were vulnerable to hacking, but ADT reportedly failed to inform consumers.

According to comments and posts on the TCA Facebook page, Class Members who submitted timely and valid claims for the ADT security hacking class action settlement started receiving checks worth as much as $50. The claims in the class action settlement were estimated to be either $15 or $45.

Under the terms of the ADT security hacking class action settlement, there were two sets of Class Members. Class Members who contracted with ADT for a security system between July 24, 2014 and Aug. 15, 2016 could claim a cash award of $45. Class Members who contracted with ADT between Nov. 13, 2009 and July 23, 2014 could claim a cash award of $15.

Class Members included current and former customers of ADT who contracted with the company for a residential security system with one or more wireless peripheral sensors between Nov. 13, 2009 and Aug. 15, 2016.

Five complaints were consolidated into the ADT security hacking class action lawsuit. According to the plaintiffs, ADT security systems that utilized wireless peripheral sensors were vulnerable to hackers. Hackers, alleged the class action lawsuit, could disable the security system, but ADT customers were not informed of the vulnerability.

In January 2017, ADT agreed to settle the security hacking class action lawsuit. Although they admitted no liability, ADT agreed to pay $16 million to end the litigation.

The Claim Form deadline was Feb. 26, 2018 and the ADT security hacking class action settlement received final approval on July 22, 2019. No proof of purchase was required beyond the information required on the Claim Form.
