Passengers aboard an Alaska Airlines flight where a door plug flew off the Boeing 737 Max 9 plane midflight have filed a class action lawsuit claiming the airplane manufacturer is responsible for both physical and emotional injuries from the flight.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has said it is investigating what happened on Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 from Portland, Oregon, to Ontario, California, that led to the many issues aboard. The plane reportedly had prior issues that led to warning lights and a restriction against flying over water.

The door plug on the left side flew off the plane while it was ascending, causing the plane to depressurize and allegedly terrifying passengers before the plane headed back to Portland International Airport.

“The cockpit door blew open and a flight attendant rushed to try to close it,” the Boeing blowout class action says. “The pressure change made ears bleed and combined with low oxygen, loud wind noise and traumatic stress made heads ache severely. Passengers were shocked, terrorized and confused, thrust into a waking nightmare, hoping they would live long enough to walk the earth again.”

Masks dropped for Boeing passengers but did not operate correctly, lawsuit claims

Oxygen masks dropped, but Boeing passengers claim the masks didn’t operate correctly and oxygen did not flow.

“Flight attendants sought to attend to children, questions and concerns, and carried oxygen bottles to some, but did not or could not help all those whose oxygen masks seemed not to be functioning,” the Alaska Airlines blowout class action says.

The proposed class would include all 171 passengers on the flight. The class is asking for damages for construction defects, physical and emotional injuries and attorneys’ fees.
