Three plaintiffs and head football coach Ed Orgeron were added to a class action lawsuit alleging claims of sexual assault perpetrated by athletes were disregarded by Louisiana State University (LSU), the institution’s athletic fund, and various LSU officials.

In an amended complaint, Orgeron was accused of ignoring reports that LSU football players sexually harassed and assaulted the plaintiffs and even an elderly security guard, reports Focus Daily News.  A plaintiff, who was also added in the amended class action lawsuit, says she was raped by an LSU football player. She claims that her then-boyfriend reported the rape to Orgeron who allegedly told him “everybody’s girlfriend sleeps with other people” and not to be too upset.

“I’m doing this to protect our daughters and future women of LSU,” the plaintiff told reporters of her decision to join the class action lawsuit. “There has to be change within the University and its policies. If I would have known other women had been assaulted by the same person I was, I wouldn’t have felt so alone, and I would have had the courage to come forward back in 2016.”

The class action, filed on behalf of current and former LSU students in April, came after a USA Today investigation revealed that reports of sexual assault committed by athletes were improperly handled and a $50 million lawsuit filed by the LSU athletics director earlier that month.

Originally six, and now nine named plaintiffs, along with other unidentified individuals, claim that LSU school officials ignored and covered up reports of sexual assault and harassment perpetrated by members of its “venerated college football program.”

The class action lawsuit accuses LSU school officials of neglecting their Title IX obligations by ignoring and even suppressing reports of sexual assault and harassment perpetrated by student-athletes. The lawsuit says that the school fails to appropriately train staff on Title IX.

The plaintiffs, including former LSU student-athletes themselves, say that they were forced to leave the school because of the mishandling of their reports, missing out on valuable educational, career, and athletic opportunities.
