MLB.tv class action lawsuit overview:
- Who: Bryan Henry filed a class action lawsuit against Major League Baseball Advanced Media LP, operator of MLB.tv.
- Why: Henry claims MLB.tv unlawfully shares the personal viewing information of digital subscribers with Facebook.
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in New York federal court.
Streaming service MLB.tv unlawfully shares the personal viewing information of its digital subscribers with Facebook, a new class action lawsuit alleges.
Plaintiff Bryan Henry’s class action lawsuit claims MLB.tv shares allows Facebook to see users’ identities and what they watched.
Henry also claims MLB.tv shares either the Facebook ID or personally identifiable information of its users with Facebook, all allegedly without first obtaining consent.
“Defendant chose to disregard Plaintiff’s and hundreds of thousands of other MLB.tv digital subscribers’ statutorily protected privacy rights by releasing their sensitive personal data to Facebook,” the MLB.tv class action states.
Henry wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers who have a digital subscription to an online website and/or app owned and/or operated by Major League Baseball Advanced Media and who had their personal view information disclosed by them to Facebook.
Class action claims MLB.tv uses Facebook Pixel to track, share subscribers’ video-viewing data
Henry claims MLB uses the so-called Facebook Pixel to track when its digital subscribers enter its website or app and view video media, prior to allegedly sharing this data with Facebook.
MLB.tv uses the personal viewing information it obtains to build additional targeted advertising for its website, reaping “ secret profits at the expense of its digital subscribers’ privacy and their statutory rights,” the MLB.tv class action alleges.
“Thus, without obtaining consent from its digital subscribers, Defendant profits from its unauthorized disclosure of its digital subscribers’ Personal Viewing Information to Facebook,” the MLB.tv class action argues.
Henry claims MLB.tv is guilty of violating the Video Privacy Protection Act. He is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory and injunctive relief along with an award of punitive damages for himself and all class members.
In a similar case, AMC Entertainment Holdings agreed to pay $8.3 million earlier this month to put an end to claims it violated federal privacy laws by unlawfully tracking users on its website and sharing the information it gained with third parties.

Does that include if you already have the mlb.TV on with my cable subscription, which I can also stream and watch with the same company(Comcast/Xfinity) subscription? I’m concerned as I have been watching many spring training games currently but also many other shows, and pregame and post game shows on Mlb.TV already for years.
I bought their season ending special in Aug or Sept 2023. Remember it well because I was upset that it did not include any playoff games. Sent them an email listing my frustration, received back a general thank you for being a customer.
