Weee! grocery store data breach overview:

  • Who: Asian and Hispanic grocery store Weee! confirmed a data breach that exposed the private information of 1.1 million of its customers.
  • Why: A threat actor named IntelBroker posted on a hacking forum that they had stolen a database of 11 million customers — reportedly only containing 1.1 million unique email addresses, however.
  • Where: Consumers nationwide use Weee!

Weee!, an Asian and Hispanic grocery store and delivery service, confirmed it suffered a data breach that exposed the information of 1.1 million of its customers.

A threat actor named IntelBroker posted the stolen data on the Breached hacking and data breach forum, Bleeping Computer reports.

While IntelBroker reportedly wrote IntelBroker stole a database of 11 million customers, Troy Hunt of the Have I Been Pwned data breach notification service tells Bleeping Computer the database only contained 1.1 million unique email addresses.

Information exposed in the Weee! data breach includes customers’ full names, phone numbers, email addresses, order notes and device types, along with other data, Bleeping Computer reports.

Weee! reportedly says that none of its customers’ payment information was stolen during the data breach, noting that the company does not retain that data.

Weee! data breach impacts customers who placed orders from between July 12, 2021, and July 12, 2022

The Weee! data breach specifically impacted customers who placed an order with the company between July 12, 2021, and July 12, 2022, according to a statement Weee! provided to Bleeping Computer.

Weee! reportedly says it has already notified its customers about the incident and will directly notify any customer whose information was exposed during the data breach.

Customers who want to find out if their information was exposed in the Weee! grocery store data breach can search for their email addresses on Have I Been Pwned once the data breach notification service adds the data.

In other recent data breach news, a consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Rackspace Technology Inc. earlier this month, arguing that a December 2022 data breach was caused by the company’s own negligence.

  1. K says:

I’ve been getting frequent unsolicited calls from multiple places and nations over the past half-year, with the majority of them being automated Mandarin-speaking calls. Weee is the sole service I’ve used in recent years that specifically caters to the Chinese community, which makes me suspect a connection to the Weee data breach.

  2. Da Huang says:

I received scam call with my detailed information this never happened before. They claimed someone stole my info and opened credit card, need police report to suspend it. it is super annoying and I am worried on my safety as well because so many things are leaked at my home address. I hope there is a class action.

  3. Donna says:

Since that data breach I have been getting Chinese text messages and voicemails nonstop. It is very obvious someone has stolen my cell number and utilizing it for all sorts of purposes. I use the Google translate software to see what these messages are about and they range from asking about English tutoring services to financial services. I got a vm from the Chinese embassy just yesterday saying there was an issue with my entry permit into the US! WTH!!!

  4. jimin huang says:

received spam text messages and calls in Chinese mostly every day, just received a spam phone 10 mins ago, it’s really affecting my life, I do not know how to stop this, also my Amex credit card information has been stolen, and purchase few hundred dollars , luckily, the credit card company contacted me and cancel the transaction.

  5. IsMad says:

In addition to the endless SPAM text, calls, and emails, I had fraudulent charges on my credit card. I had to replace the card and reset my ApplePay. I also got scammed when a fake Walmart customer service rep called me and made me think that someone had opened a credit card under my name. They then connected me to a fake local police who now has my government ID and photo. It was a deliberate scam carefully crafted to target Chinese people. They had my name, address, phone, and email. I called 911 and the police said the scammers couldn’t really do anything with what they got, but I’m still worried about my personal safety. This is madness. Weee should be responsible for what they did.

  6. Ark says:

I got so many spam calls these days. It is so scary

  7. Wee user says:

So frustrated by the sudden increase in spam calls and texts in various forms. Clearly crafted to target chinese people. Not like robo spams. I basically do not have phone or text functions anymore. Just have to ignore everything.

  8. Norma says:

Experienced some spam messages before but not many. But they may sell our info to scammers. The scammer said (in Chinese) he is the manager in T-Mobile and someone used our info to open a phone number to spread illegal messages. Then he transferred us to fake local police, where they ask our name, id number. etc. They type these into their system, and generate a report saying that we are involved in a complicated international financial crime. They scared us that our bank accounts and status here will be freezed.

  9. Alice says:

My personal info has been sold to dark web by Weee. Everyday I’m very frustrated dealing with scam calls and fishing emails, EVERY SINGLE DAY.

  10. Xinyu Li says:

I received a dozen spam calls per day last month, they all claim to be border controls in China with the same story of my credit card was found in the bag of a criminal, I’ve only used the Nick name they called me in Weee!!!
