Weee! grocery store data breach overview:

  • Who: Asian and Hispanic grocery store Weee! confirmed a data breach that exposed the private information of 1.1 million of its customers.
  • Why: A threat actor named IntelBroker posted on a hacking forum that they had stolen a database of 11 million customers — reportedly only containing 1.1 million unique email addresses, however.
  • Where: Consumers nationwide use Weee!

Weee!, an Asian and Hispanic grocery store and delivery service, confirmed it suffered a data breach that exposed the information of 1.1 million of its customers.

A threat actor named IntelBroker posted the stolen data on the Breached hacking and data breach forum, Bleeping Computer reports.

While IntelBroker reportedly wrote IntelBroker stole a database of 11 million customers, Troy Hunt of the Have I Been Pwned data breach notification service tells Bleeping Computer the database only contained 1.1 million unique email addresses.

Information exposed in the Weee! data breach includes customers’ full names, phone numbers, email addresses, order notes and device types, along with other data, Bleeping Computer reports.

Weee! reportedly says that none of its customers’ payment information was stolen during the data breach, noting that the company does not retain that data.

Weee! data breach impacts customers who placed orders from between July 12, 2021, and July 12, 2022

The Weee! data breach specifically impacted customers who placed an order with the company between July 12, 2021, and July 12, 2022, according to a statement Weee! provided to Bleeping Computer.

Weee! reportedly says it has already notified its customers about the incident and will directly notify any customer whose information was exposed during the data breach.

Customers who want to find out if their information was exposed in the Weee! grocery store data breach can search for their email addresses on Have I Been Pwned once the data breach notification service adds the data.

In other recent data breach news, a consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Rackspace Technology Inc. earlier this month, arguing that a December 2022 data breach was caused by the company’s own negligence.

  1. Ze Wei weng says:

I am a resident of Connecticut and a current college student in Boston. I was noticed by Experian and CreditWise from Capital One that my personal and highly sensitive information was exposed by Weee! to the dark web on 02/13/23 and 02/16/23, respectively. As a result, I receive countless spam emails and calls on a regular basis. I spent hours changing passwords on various websites on 02/17/23 due to the fact that the exposed email address (jweng1@live.com) is my login user name on many frequently visited websites. I believe I already suffered harm and remains at considerable and imminent risk of future harm.

  2. Daisy Zhang says:

I’ve been getting a ton of scam calls and texts after I started using Weee. Some of them are directly referring to my name. I’m deeply concerned for my safety and everyone else’s. I think this company should pay the price for their criminal behaviour.

  3. Sharon says:

I’m deeply concerned that my personal information was exposed in the Weee! data breach. It’s unsettling to think that my private details could be in the hands of cybercriminals. I hope that Weee! will take swift action to rectify the situation and put in place stronger measures to protect their customers’ data in the future.

  4. Jerome Soung says:

Just got a note from IDnotify saying that my phone number was found on dark web. Though, I’ve already seen dramatically increased number of scams sent to my email after the breach news. I’m afraid that all other personal info the Weee stores has been exposed too. I would very much like to see and participate in a class action against Weee. This is too much exposure to all victims. Name+phone+email+address means literally the real person. The resulted damage possibility and consequences is way too expensive to every individual.

  5. Victoria says:

I now receive 3 or more spam calls per day. EVERY DAY! In additional to all the spam emails I got. Now I block all the unknown numbers. I missed out all the calls from doctors or appointments but I have no other ideas.

  6. Seattle Yang says:

My number, name, and email address have been exposed to scammers, which caused 3000 dollars lost. I felt so angry about exposing private information in public. I will continuously stand for protecting users’ information. If a company passes security responsibility to a third party, how can we trust the company further?

  7. Joyce says:

I have received tons of scam and junk emails and phone calls since using Weee
    They sold our data!

  8. Fredrick coffey says:

    Please add me

  9. Compromised says:

My data is in the breach and I never received any notice from Weee!

  10. Wan-Hwa Cheng says:

I am one of the victims. I have received lots of spam text messages, one of them even told me that he is in LA, will come to see me next week. For me, the message is so scared because I live in California. Also, I think they haven‘t fixed the issue yet. 2/3 was my first time using my AMEX on Weee! and on 2/15, AMEX sent me an email and said my information is on the Dark Web and the data exposure is associated with Weee!
