Weee! grocery store data breach overview:

  • Who: Asian and Hispanic grocery store Weee! confirmed a data breach that exposed the private information of 1.1 million of its customers.
  • Why: A threat actor named IntelBroker posted on a hacking forum that they had stolen a database of 11 million customers — reportedly only containing 1.1 million unique email addresses, however.
  • Where: Consumers nationwide use Weee!

Weee!, an Asian and Hispanic grocery store and delivery service, confirmed it suffered a data breach that exposed the information of 1.1 million of its customers.

A threat actor named IntelBroker posted the stolen data on the Breached hacking and data breach forum, Bleeping Computer reports.

While IntelBroker reportedly wrote IntelBroker stole a database of 11 million customers, Troy Hunt of the Have I Been Pwned data breach notification service tells Bleeping Computer the database only contained 1.1 million unique email addresses.

Information exposed in the Weee! data breach includes customers’ full names, phone numbers, email addresses, order notes and device types, along with other data, Bleeping Computer reports.

Weee! reportedly says that none of its customers’ payment information was stolen during the data breach, noting that the company does not retain that data.

Weee! data breach impacts customers who placed orders from between July 12, 2021, and July 12, 2022

The Weee! data breach specifically impacted customers who placed an order with the company between July 12, 2021, and July 12, 2022, according to a statement Weee! provided to Bleeping Computer.

Weee! reportedly says it has already notified its customers about the incident and will directly notify any customer whose information was exposed during the data breach.

Customers who want to find out if their information was exposed in the Weee! grocery store data breach can search for their email addresses on Have I Been Pwned once the data breach notification service adds the data.

In other recent data breach news, a consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Rackspace Technology Inc. earlier this month, arguing that a December 2022 data breach was caused by the company’s own negligence

  1. Wani says:

Since I signed up on Weee, I started getting all kinds of spam text messages and emails. Just recently, Weee emailed me about this “data security incident”, no apologize or solution. This is not acceptable, my name, phone number and address are all exposed, I don’t fell safe.

Weee should definitely be investigated and punished for this.

  2. Nancy says:

Very upset and disappointed about Weee! I have been received many many harassing messages and calls that seriously affected my life!! Weee sold our information, shouldn’t they be published by law!! They just sent a email to customers, there are no apologies and no compensation! So angry!!

  3. Joe says:

Got lots of spam emails and fishing msgs and voicemails in both English and Chinese. Really annoyed by all this nonsense and it all made sense on how they got my contact info from weee’s… won’t use them again!

    1. Hailey says:

I have experienced several scam phone calls and text messages either pretending to know me or accusing me for potential involvement in illegal activities after frequently using Weee! in July 2022. I suspect that my credit card info was also compromised since fraudulent transactions occurred on my credit card bill in July 2022 as well. I am very upset with the lack of data security of Weee! and it has really troubles my life since I’ve been receiving scams on daily basis

Very upset about this!!! I got weird phone calls, text messages and emails everyday!!! This company sucks! We should sue them!

  5. Alex says:

The behavior of leaking information is really shameful. They have not realized this shameful behavior, and they continued to leak information. I don’t know how such a company can shamelessly keep doing this. I really don’t want this behavior to continue.

  6. Q_Q says:

Whenever I placed an order via Weee, there will be tons of fraud messages and calls harassing me. For example, those criminals pretended to be the people working at gov and told me I have visa issues, or I have taxes issues, etc. It is so annoying and seriously disturbed my life.

  7. Iris says:

@Vita Qiu I was affected as well, and I’m interested in initiating a class action lawsuit too
Let’s work together and see if we can find other victims, this really is unaccepctable

    1. Ivanna Perkins says:

I too am a victim and believe we should have a class action lawsuit against them even though it’s not our credit cards it’s our names our emails and our phone numbers that’s sensitive information as well so let’s all work together for the pain and suffering this has caused us

  8. Kate says:

I received hundreds of scams ever since I started using Weee! for grocery shopping. At the beginning I was really confused why these scammers get my personal information. I stopped using weee for a while due to poor product quality then I found fraud calls and texts were gradually decreased. Until lately Weee finally admitted that they bleached customs information, I’m so shocked and disappointed about this company. They never show honest and respect in their “apology emails”, all I can read is their haughty attitude like they don’t give a **** about their mistakes. This is a serious issue but they never take it seriously. As a customer we need to stand out and shout for ourselves, feel shame about this super awful company!

  9. Judy says:

I received spam messages and calls basically every day! It is so disgusting for WEEE to sell our info!

  10. Vita Qiu says:

I recently experienced fraud on my PayPal account after using Weee between December 21, 2022, and January 3, 2023. I believe that my PayPal account was compromised as a result of using Weee and would like to explore the possibility of initiating a class action lawsuit.

If other individuals have also experienced fraud or other issues after using Weee and PayPal during this time period, we may be able to seek compensation through a class action lawsuit. I would encourage anyone who has been affected to come forward and share their experiences.

Of course, before pursuing legal action, it’s important to thoroughly investigate the situation and gather evidence of any wrongdoing. It may be worth consulting with an attorney who specializes in class action lawsuits to determine whether this is the right course of action for you.

Regardless of whether or not a lawsuit is pursued, it’s important to take steps to protect your financial information and report any suspicious activity as soon as possible. Let’s work together to ensure that consumers are protected and that businesses are held accountable for any breaches of trust.”

    1. Dominic says:

Endless scam calls and messages, thank you.
