Weee! grocery store data breach overview:

  • Who: Asian and Hispanic grocery store Weee! confirmed a data breach that exposed the private information of 1.1 million of its customers.
  • Why: A threat actor named IntelBroker posted on a hacking forum that they had stolen a database of 11 million customers — reportedly only containing 1.1 million unique email addresses, however.
  • Where: Consumers nationwide use Weee!

Weee!, an Asian and Hispanic grocery store and delivery service, confirmed it suffered a data breach that exposed the information of 1.1 million of its customers.

A threat actor named IntelBroker posted the stolen data on the Breached hacking and data breach forum, Bleeping Computer reports.

While IntelBroker reportedly wrote IntelBroker stole a database of 11 million customers, Troy Hunt of the Have I Been Pwned data breach notification service tells Bleeping Computer the database only contained 1.1 million unique email addresses.

Information exposed in the Weee! data breach includes customers’ full names, phone numbers, email addresses, order notes and device types, along with other data, Bleeping Computer reports.

Weee! reportedly says that none of its customers’ payment information was stolen during the data breach, noting that the company does not retain that data.

Weee! data breach impacts customers who placed orders from between July 12, 2021, and July 12, 2022

The Weee! data breach specifically impacted customers who placed an order with the company between July 12, 2021, and July 12, 2022, according to a statement Weee! provided to Bleeping Computer.

Weee! reportedly says it has already notified its customers about the incident and will directly notify any customer whose information was exposed during the data breach.

Customers who want to find out if their information was exposed in the Weee! grocery store data breach can search for their email addresses on Have I Been Pwned once the data breach notification service adds the data.

In other recent data breach news, a consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Rackspace Technology Inc. earlier this month, arguing that a December 2022 data breach was caused by the company’s own negligence.

  1. Candice Ye says:

Just think about how much we have lost and might lose! Our phone numbers, emails, passwords, etc., that connect to our privacy and bank accounts are leaked to those who harass us by messaging and trick us by sending suspicious links. Do you actually understand how irritating it is to get all kinds of wild texts from strangers and receive links that can steal away our bank deposits with just a click? It’s fully Weee’s responsibility to clean up this hot mess and compensate all we users appropriately.

  2. Caroline says:

Same here, received tons of scam calls and messages everyday, what weee has done to its customers is unacceptable!

  3. Lisa says:

I received a lot of scamming emails and messages. It’s so annoying. Weee definitely sold our card information as well.

  4. Yifei Wang says:

Almost every day since the data leak happened, I have received spam messages and telephone calls as a Weee! consumer! It is outrageous that Weee! is sending emails to its customers claiming that they do not think the data leak is as important as it is and that they will not suffer any harm as a result. I have a high suspicion that my credit card information is also insecure.

  5. Megan says:

I cannot image such a ‘tech’ company can leak user information as much as Weee, it was so terrible, bringing endless risks and troubles to our life and assets, we need clear statement of how this can happen, and need reparation.

  6. zm says:

Like the others, I received countless scam calls, emails, and text messages. My credit card got unauthorized charges as well. None of these happened this frequently before using Weee. And Weee only sent us an email to inform us what happened, so apologies at all, and no future plans to prevent any of these from happening again. I have friends who made purchases after the date that Weee mentioned in the email, and they still got scam emails/calls/texts, which only means one thing they won’t stop selling customers’ info. Weee shame on you

  7. Jessie says:

Before weee’s email notification about this data breach, I’ve already got a lot of spam text messages. I also got a voice call from a man said he’s the customer service from T-mobile and someone is using my email address to spread some illegal speech, he would report me to immigration department. But I’m not a T-mobile user at all! Hope weee can give these customers a proper way to solve this inconvenience.

  8. Annie says:

I also have received dozens of scam messages written in Chinese since using Weee. It’s extremely disturbing and I strongly suspect that Weee have sold our info but attributed to data breach. They don’t even want to apologize for that. Sucks!

  9. Ddluna says:

This company is terrible! They definitely sold out date! Ever since I used their app I have been getting all kinds of scam text and call! They need to be responsible for this.

  10. Max says:

Since I started to use weee, I received a lot of scams like calls, messages and emails. Recently, I started to receive money requests from paypal. weee said our payment method was not impacted by this accident. Obviously they lied to us. They do not even feel sorry to us. If anyone is experience this or has experienced this, we need to fight together.
