T-Mobile data breach overview:

T-Mobile disclosed late last month it suffered a data breach that affected more than 800 of its customers, marking the second time this year a data breach has hit the mobile telecommunication company.

The latest T-Mobile data breach happened between February and March, according to the company, which revealed hackers had accessed private data such as names, birthdates and Social Security numbers, The Verge reports

The data breach also reportedly exposed T-Mobile account holders’ addresses, contact information, government IDs and T-Mobile account pins. 

In a letter sent to customers April 28 and shared by BleepingComputer, T-Mobile did not reveal how the data breach occurred, but said it “has a number of safeguards in place to prevent unauthorized access such as this,” and apologized for the incident. 

“We take these issues seriously. We apologize that this happened and are furthering efforts to enhance security of your information,” T-Mobile said in its letter to customers. 

T-Mobile claims none of its customers’ personal financial information or call records were compromised in the data breach and said the information affected varied from customer to customer. 

T-Mobile says it ‘proactively reset’ affected customers’ T-Mobile account PINs

T-Mobile has informed its customers it had “proactively reset” their T-Mobile account PINs, and is offering two years of free credit monitoring and identity theft detection services through myTrueIdentity, from Transunion. 

The data breach is the ninth T-Mobile has suffered since 2018, and the second already this year, The Verge reports.

T-Mobile disclosed in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission earlier this year that a data breach between November 2022 and January 2023 exposed the private data of around 37 million of its customers. 

The company revealed it discovered the data breach Jan. 5 and believed the incident began on or around Nov. 25, 2022.

    IF SOMEONE KNOWS WHAT I CAN DO PLEASE I NEED HELP right now I am going through that I made a claim for a cell phone that was damaged and I have it insured so I received my replacement and sent the damaged cell phone and now they say that the package is basic when I have the receipt of the shipment and there is a specific weight of the package that I sent them and in addition to that they are charging me for another device that they say they sent me because I called them to tell them that the first one had arrived damaged, which I never did and Now I am receiving a charge for a cell phone that I did return and for another cell phone that I did not call to report anything, so I think I was affected by the red information that T MOBILE suffered. In addition, in the same month they added two insurance companies to two of my lines and I never did that either when I realized I called to cancel them

    I think my account may have been compromised. I received texts from whom I thought was T-Mobile. It didn’t look official so I called them, possibly on two occasions. I was instructed to forward the messages to them. To confirm they received those messages, T-Mobile thanked me for informing them.

    Please add me to this Lawsuit. Ever Since the Merger from Sprint to T-Mobile I have had major problems with my cell phone services from compromised information like hacked e-mails to several robo calls. and all they can offer is a security promise that doesn’t seem so secure. I received a text message about the second lawsuit this year from T-Mobile and I’m questioning whether I want to continue my service with them.

    My phone number was ported over to a prepaid number using my secure pin. Once your number is moved over, the user can use the phone to bypass two part authentication, which they were. My passwords for accounts were being changed, including investing accounts. This was on 3/17 and the office of the CEO was made aware on 3/18. I was provided with a response on 3/22. So, they were well aware before 3/30. PA attorney office was notified but did not do anything.
