Acme United PhysiciansCare Drugs Recall Overview:Â
- Who: Acme United Corporation has recalled around 165,000 of its PhysicianCare brand over-the-counter drugs.Â
- Why: The recall was initiated over concerns the drugs packaging fails to meet child resistance requirements, causing a poisoning risk.
- Where: The recall is nationwide.
Acme United Corporation has initiated a recall for around 165,000 of its PhysiciansCare brand over-the-counter drugs after discovering their packaging did not meet child resistant requirements.Â
The recall includes PhysiciansCare brand Aspirin, Extra Strength Non Aspirin, Extra Strength Pain Reliever, Ibuprofen, Medication Station and Multi Pack, according to a recall notice published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Mar. 17.Â
Acme United says the recalled products, which were sold between Feb. 2014 and June 2021 for between $5 and $50, come packaged in cardboard boxes that contain 50, 100, 250 and 500 tablets each.Â
A failure to meet child-resistant packaging requirements can lead to a risk of poisoning if a young child were to swallow its contents, according to the recall.Â
Acme United says since the drugs contain regulated substances such as aspirin, ibuprofen or acetaminophen, that they are required to be in sufficiently child-resistant packaging when being used in a household.Â
The requirement stems from the Poison Prevention Packaging Act, according to the recall notice.Â
Acme United Advises PhysiciansCare Purchasers To Store Products AwayÂ
Consumers who own any of the affected products are being advised by Acme United to immediately store them in a safe location away from children.Â
Acme United is also asking purchasers to contact them directly for more information on how to either dispose of the product or return it for a full refund.
The company, which says no injuries related to the recall have been reported, will also be contacting purchasers directly, according to the recall notice.
Consumers who want more information can contact Acme United directly by phone at 888-520-2199 or online.Â
A separate recall revolving around a potential health risk was initiated earlier this month by PepsiCo, which recalled more than 250,000 of its Starbucks brand DoubleShot Espresso drinks over concerns they may prematurely spoil due to not being sealed correctly.Â
