Atrium Health has agreed to a $2.1 million class action settlement to resolve claims that it used pixel technology on its website and patient portal that led to the disclosure of personal and health-related information to third parties, including Meta and Google.

The Atrium Health settlement benefits individuals who had MyAtriumHealth or MyCarolinas patient portal accounts between Jan. 1, 2015, and April 10, 2024.

The settlement has two subclasses. Group 1 includes class members who used their patient portal accounts between Jan. 1, 2015, and July 31, 2019, while Group 2 includes class members who had a patient portal account between Jan. 1, 2015, and April 10, 2024, but did not access their account between Jan. 1, 2015, and July 31, 2019.

According to the data privacy class action lawsuit, Atrium Health used pixel technology on its website and patient portal to track user activity, which it then shared with third parties, including Meta and Google.

Atrium Health is a network of hospitals and other medical facilities in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.

Atrium Health has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $2.1 million class action settlement to resolve these allegations.

Under the terms of the Atrium Health settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the group they belong to. Group 1 payments will vary depending on the number of participating class members and will be a pro rata share of the net settlement fund. Group 2 payments will be up to $10 but may be reduced depending on the number of participating class members.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Aug. 31, 2026.

The final approval hearing for the class action settlement is scheduled for Sept. 30, 2026.

To receive a settlement payment, class members must submit a valid claim form by Sept. 28, 2026.
