Total Vision agreed to pay $475,000 as part of a class action settlement to resolve claims it failed to protect patient information during a 2020 data breach.

The Total Vision settlement benefits individuals who received a data breach notification letter from Total Vision regarding a data breach that occurred on Oct. 30, 2020.

According to the Total Vision data breach class action lawsuit, hackers gained access to sensitive patient information, including birth dates, Social Security numbers, medical information and more. Plaintiffs in the data breach lawsuit claim Total Vision failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures that could have prevented the breach.

Total Vision is an eye care network with locations in California that offers a range of services, including eye exams, contact lens fittings, vision therapy and more.

Total Vision has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to resolve these allegations with a $475,000 class action settlement.

Under the terms of the Total Vision settlement, class members can receive a cash payment. Class members who experienced out-of-pocket expenses related to the data breach can receive up to $1,000 for these losses. This reimbursement may include fees, fraudulent charges, credit expenses and more.

All class members will benefit from business practice commitments made by Total Vision to improve data security measures. According to the settlement notice, these improvements are valued at $224,000.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 4, 2026.

The final approval hearing for the Total Vision data breach settlement is scheduled for Dec. 18, 2026.

To receive class action settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Oct. 5, 2026.
