A woman's hand holds a cellphone with a Verizon screen in front of a laptop - Verizon bill

Verizon Wireless is facing a new class action lawsuit from a customer who says the company adds extra charges to his bill for services without properly notifying him or providing him an adequate contract in writing.

By adding the services without sending him a written contract to agree to, and in light of the company’s push to convince customers to choose paperless billing, Verizon is putting consumers at a disadvantage that violates New Jersey’s Consumer Fraud Act, plaintiff Stephen Simoni says.

Simoni, who lives in Wyoming, filed the class action lawsuit and is seeking to represent a Class of consumers from his home state who had similar charges on their Verizon bill within the last six years. He is unsure at this point how many potential Class Members there might be, but estimates there are “most likely many thousands.”

According to Simoni, one of his wireless phones got damaged between November and December 2019 and he initiated a claim for insurance coverage through Verizon’s carrier, Asurion.

While working with an Asurion agent to process the claim, the agent solicited Simoni to purchase a monthly “Smart Home Support” protection plan, he says. The plan would reportedly cover more than just Simoni’s phone — it would offer him protection for various other household devices that operate with Verizon’s wireless service.

Simoni says Asurion told him he would receive an email explaining more about the plan and its terms and said he could cancel it at any time, the procedure for which would also be outlined in the email.

The plaintiff says he never got a “confirmation of sale” for the protection plan, but Verizon added the monthly Asurion charge to his Verizon bill without him realizing it.

“Verizon did not adhere to its well-established policy of sending consumers a notification of the new ‘Next Bill Summary’ caused by the addition of the new charge,” his class action lawsuit says.

Simoni says he became aware that he had been charged for the plan nearly a year later when he got a paper receipt and account summary while purchasing a new wireless phone.

He later contacted Verizon and demanded reimbursement. The company “only provided a minimal refund and blamed [him] for not having read his monthly paperless bills.”

The Verizon bill class action lawsuit was originally filed in state court in New Jersey on Nov. 30. This month, lawyers for Verizon moved to have the case transferred to federal court. Now it is being considered by the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.

I was promised $700 off of an iPhone as long as I provide the old iPhone I had, which was in perfect condition, but that didn’t matter they said it was a customer appreciation deal & as soon as they recieve the iPhone they will update my bill & reimburse me for paying in full.Which never happened. Also I’m being charged for $25 a month through Asurion home protection I never signed up for. They were supposed to reimburse that & never did & also I have been paying $650 a month for my bill of 4 lines! they kept telling me this is for late fees but paying $300 & something every two weeks for the past 6 months u would think I’d be pretty caught up right? I can see my payments & my bill & it doesn’t add up at all! & they just keep bullshitting me telling me that someone will reach out to fix this but no one has.I was late on my bill twice about a yr ago & this is the result from that. They are awful. If there’s anyway I can file a civil suit please someone let me know how I can because this is ridiculous they’re getting away w/this

  3. Jamie Smith says:

They just increased my bill as an add-on without my knowledge and nothing changed about my service. I didn’t change my contract with them. Please add me.

In June of this year I got a notice that my bill was increasing by $16 a month for no reason. Went to the local Verizon Store and asked what was up with the increase. Was told that was corporate decision. I told them T-Mobile was offering a price at HALF the cost of their service and actually was a upgrade to unlimited with 5G. Their response was you get what you pay for.
I went over to the T-Mobile Store and switched on June 24 to T-Mobile. In July received a bill with the increase which they took out of my checking account. Spent 3 hours of my life that I will never get back trying to get someone at Verizon to look at the improper bill. Finally got to billing and they reversed the charge.
Two weeks later I get a letter from a collection Agency that Verizon is saying I did not pay the last bill. Told the Collection Agency that they had actually refunded that amount to me.
Then today I look at my bank account and Verizon took out that money from my account and then charged a $30 late fee on top of that.
Now I have to go to my bank and see if I can stop payment. I am trying to get Verizon automatic payment stopped but it is a nightmare. Very easy to set up but impossible to stop. I do not want them taking money out of my bank account.
Any lawsuits for that and I am in.

  8. Tamika Wallace says:

I was a Verizon Wireless customer and I canceled my services after the first month of receiving my first bill because the charges were higher than I was told. I paid my final bill on the phone and unsteady of them resolving my account, they sent me an additional bill for 270.00 for equipment charges. I called customer service and they told me how to send the equipment back and I did. Now they are still after me for money and I don’t have the equipment or the services. It’s all about money and squeezing whatever they can out of people.

    1. Kate says:

YES I realized too late that Verizon is not user friendly and bill will only grow and they don’t care about the costumers only money .I will pay and get out as soon as I can from Verizon
